    SSDs for crunchers

Hey guys, I found a guy selling 30 Intel X25-E SSDs for $750 ($25 each). These things would be great for CEP2 crunching, and well just crunching in general (lower power usage than HDDs and let your HDD idle when only crunching.)

Anyone interested in going in on this with me? I'll get it shipped to me, simply send me $25 + Shipping to your location and they're yours. I'll take between 3 and 5 depending on other's demand... any takers on the remaining 25-27?

    Takers:
    Otis11 - 3 (5)
    mreuter80 - 2

PS - Midterms week, so please cut me some slack if I'm a bit slow to the posts...

Oh - and if anyone would rather take charge of this and have the full batch shipped to them to distribute - please do. I unfortunately have no way to test them when they arrive (desktops are back home, so won't see them until christmas. Though I could probably convince my friend to let me test them on his rig...)

IDK man, I have a 60GB partition on one PC and Windows 7 barely fits....

Does Windows 8 use less space? And what the hell is hiberfil.sys?

it's for when you decide to hibernate

open administrative CMD and type in
    powercfg -hibernate off

    saves you some space

here's a good tutorial for win7...most of that stuff works for windows 8 too

I could use 2 off does, but after shipping the deal wouldn't be that great for me.

Really? I've never had much of a problem. Windows takes 10-12 GB, WCG another 4 ish with everything installed...

Anyone have more information on this?

Haha, yeah... that tends to be an issue on bargain items...

Yeah BOINC + an OS just doesn't take that much space:

This is one of my dedicated crunchers running an updated install of Server 2008R2 and BOINC and nothing else. Plenty of room to spare even on a 40GB disk

Not over - but doesn't look like we have nearly enough interest unless you're going to take a bunch of them...

Well then i guess i have some crap on here taking up 20gigs.....does Windows 8 use more or less space than 7? Do SSDs really matter for crunching?

Typically SSDs don't matter much - but for CEP2 they are very helpful, plus they don't hurt anything... And for dedicated crunchers they're lower power.
