What is the best/correct way to update nVidia drivers?

Comming from AMD for many years, updating drivers were kinda strange. No way to uninstall the whole driver package, just Physicsx and Experience. Then I had to go to the card hardware, driver and uninstall. This was strange for me. Do they just want us to install the new driver, without first removing the older one?

So; which is the best/correct way to update from one driver version to a another on nVidia cards?

First uninstall all the nVidia drivers from the control panel (reboot if required)

Then use Driver Sweeper to clean all the remaining registry keys and other NVidia files, then reboot and install the new driver.

    Good luck.

There was NO nVidia driver package thingy in Control Panel - Programs, to uninstall. Just 2-3 items like Physicsx and Experience. Was running the 344.16 driver I think it was. Have not checked how it looks now with the 344.48 driver.

For years now nvidia's installation has performed a clean install during setup, I don't bother with the manually uninstall thing now and never have any issues. Just download the whateverversion.exe and run. Only exception being while changing GPUs.

    I use Display Driver Uninstaller

    http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/...-download.html

I use to uninstall drivers from device manager but pain can only remove one thing like driver then have to reboot in order to remove the rest like phsyx then required to reboot again then clean install new driver. And after all this reg entries still get left over then i would do reg clean.

Granted i never had issue with that process but Display Driver Uninstaller is really thorough at removing everything.

Totally agree. There's no need for all the driver cleaners anymore.

I think for the most part all are correct here with the driver package doing a clean install.

I have had issues with this from time to time, not a lot tho. Things like driver stopped responding.

That's when I do a manual clean install like we used to do and that seems to fix those.

The new 344.48 drivers did make a separate line in Remove programs, the .16 did not (maybe a bug).
