    FX-8370 - non E version

I have one 1430PGS with high SN. I believe the power of low SN is in most of cases real. But this one is not bad afterall, not the best, not the worst.

This 8370 scaling very well with lower voltage, after this is handbrake and I must set much higher voltage and I got only 200 MHz more :-/...Hope, some highskill level guys as Stilt or *Chew wake up for some time and show how good can be 8370/8370E at his side with daily cooling method (air or allinone liquid).

First only this the best effectivity for Cinebench. Good voltage, good frequency:

8370 and 8370e are the same price. Which is better for OC?

seems, in my case, 8370E a little better for air. But I cant say it, because I have only one plus one new CPUs :-D...Today I will test quicker few last benchmarks at 8370.

I'd say, if you have the spare cash go for it Johan45...
I noticed you have a 9370 that was on par with mine. I always wanted to get it 5Ghz stable and never could.
The E version is a lot of fun to play with, and I finally got my 5Ghz!

From a frugal point of view it may be silly, since the chip cost me $200 and I only got an extra 200Mhz ($1/Mhz).

On the entertainment side of things, I've had hours of fun with this chip and I'm not close to being done yet...

Here are some results with my 8370

Cooling was with a Promlimatech Megahalems CPU cooler and two Artic F12 fans in push/pull configuration.

First test was to see the lowest voltage needed for 5ghz which was 1.42v which rose to 1.44v under load

Brief test with AIDA64 at 5124 MHz, 1.5v

    Cinebench R11.5 and R15

    wPrime at 5192 MHz

    Pifast at 5350 MHz

    SuperPi at 5398 MHz

Maximum validation on air cooling was 5513 MHz

So. there are few results with allinone cooler. The difference between this FX-8370 and 8370E from another thread is around extra 50 MHz for my FX-8370E in hard benchmarks. For validation is FX-8370E better more than 150 MHz! For light benchamrks it could be +50-70 MHz. But with FX-8370E I was not focused so much for maximum of SUperpi as in this case... What about CPUNB? Again, 8370E seems a bit better, for the same frequency I need more voltage at FX-8370. For 2700+ MHz with 8370E it was around 1.25V, here 1.3 V.

    Now some banchmarks.

Ya know Daveburt714, I just might have to do that so far these CPUs look preety sweet. I'm impressed with your results on ait too topdog. I know that's a big azz cooler but still there weren't too many 8350s I saw that would do that. Thanks for the results guys, I'm just tossed up on where to spend my money, New 8370e , new 980Ti , both??? Oh so many decisions.

Could someone check if these run correctly on Crosshair IV Formula/Extreme?
I can't get dual channel with my 9370 on CH4F, while it runs fine with 8350.
Also I need 2 restarts to make it work, otherwise it tries to use the default multiplier and with 300 HT Ref obviously it can't boot on water :p
Need to turn it off - turn on again - board loads failsafe settings - enter bios - F10 - restart and then it works.

Not sure if this will help or not Infra,

I picked up an 8320E today and tested it in the C4F. I didn't experience any of the problems you mentioned above...
Dual Channel memory worked fine and no need for multiple restarts or power cycling (wasn't pushing HTRef though).

I did notice some throttling of the CPU clocks when under load, even though I had OCP and other power saving/protection features turned off...

Here's what I got after an hour or so of tinkering with it:

It seems like another nice chip! I get the feeling the C4F was holding it back a little.
I'll probably move it to the main rig next weekend just to check.

The Sabertooth is a nice board if your thinking about ditching the Crosshair IV.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave

    Thanks for the test, Dave!
The throttling is because you can't disable APM through bios, but I've noticed that above certain HTRef there's no more throttling.
I have Crosshair V Formula, but I use it for benches only. Crosshair IV Formula is in the main rig and it has a full-cover block mounted, which helps a lot.

I'm pretty sure if you disable turbo core tech through AMD OD it will also disable the APM. Has to be done through the software though. Just FYI

Yes, it works with AOD, but can't be disabled through bios.
However at high HTRef, I don't need this trick. Probably related to the fact with that high HTRef I'm using lower multi than turbo.
