Another question, was a pill required before when selecting an AMD card? If so, how long has this been going on?

Surely the 370/370X will just be either Tonga or a 20nm shrink of Tonga.

I am pretty sure there have been "pills" involved in marketing for a graphics card before. I know jelly beans were given out at one launch, just can't remember which. If AMD give out Gobstoppers at their next major launch I will turn up just for them, helps keep my nephews quiet.

People lately have been under the impression that there is no high performance 20nm node and our next gen graphics cards will be 16nm finfets. Whether or not thats true I dont know.

Of course you don't. The reality is there is no reason to tapeout an ASIC at 20planar when you can do the same at 16FinFet or 16FinFet+ and get additional benefits for a minimal cost increase.

You're not alone! LordEC911 and GoldenTiger and his "napkin math" pretty much have me convinced they will skip 20nm and go straight to 16nm finfet+ from what they have said on here and other computer related forums.

I have to admit though they really do make convincing arguments.

Ive heard that they are planning to skip 20nm as well and going straight to 16nm. Hope they come up with something good as it has almost been three years (!!) since Tahiti launched and they haven't really changed much since then except slight tweaks and increasing shaders. 1H2015 seems unlikely tho

    Anybody remember this article? http://wccftech.com/amd-hawaii-gpu-d...am-processors/

Just thinking if r9 280x is hd 7970 re-branded then its quite possible that r9 380x is r9 290x re-branded, well sort of but with the exemption it has all the stream processors unlocked????

To improve yields there is always some redundancy. CPU/GPU, ... mostly in memory. but maybe some some stream processors too.

Just because someone doesnt like the content of a discussion doesnt warrant its execution. One can simply choose to ignore it.

i will let the other member respond to you, i have absolutely no envy or time for start google search all the links for you to all the articles, response of AMD made ( hint search Dave Baumann or articles from Anandtech ) during 1 year and half about this stupid rumor, non sense that Hawaii had 48CU etc etc rumors spread by who knows when the card have been released..

Dont you think that AMD will have maybe released a full Hawaii gpu for counter attack Nvidia and his 780TI 1 year and half ago ? ... i think this rumor have been burried long long time ago. Find me 1 people today who think that Hawaii had some secret parts / CU disabled and it was not the full chips.

Sorry for my english by advance and dont see any disrespect for you in my response.

It seems Tonga is more than "expected" with a 384-bit bus. At least according to Sweclockers.
