5960X Uncore thermal impact: Stock vs OC

Testing Uncore and its impact when loaded with controlled temps.
On auto the uncore trains in at 1.55v @ 4500Mhz but I found that the uncore can actually run that speed 1.35v to 1.4v
Shamino also mentions in his OC guide that over volting the uncore is preferred.
From what I have seen so far, these uncore speeds are only possible on the OC Socket.
If your motherboard does not have the OC socket it will not reach these speeds.

It should be possible to run 4.5Ghz uncore 24/7 on air safely.

The setup:

Intel 5960X USA
Asus Rampage V Extreme X99
Corsair LPX DDR4 2666C15 SPD and XMP
Nvidia 750ti
Enermax 1500W PSU

Cooling:

Theraltake Ultimate Water 3.0

BIOS:

vcore 1.000v
vmem 1.2v
vcache auto 1.55v
cpu 40x100 4Ghz
cache 3000Mhz, 4000Mhz, 4500Mhz

Stock speed, memory at SPD = lightest load


Uncore 4000Mhz memory at XMP 1T


Uncore 4500Mhz, Mempry at XMP 1T

rad info charles when you say "OC socket" does that mean RVE x99 only? are there any other boards coming out that might have this feature? I just dont have $500 to spend on a board. i was thinking like 300 max. I would like to get back into overclocking and this x99 looks really fun since it scales well with cold.

Try to search for the extra-pins feature that ASUS has implemented in some of its boards. I found this link that says all motherboards, but double-check it to be sure.

Just the Asus boards currently, Gigabyte has been showing off a proto board with OC socket and 4x dim slots. It is called "X99 SOC Force LN2"
I do no think it is on the market yet, it may be just for selected overclockers.
