I'm lurking. Just got my main rig crunching again. Going to get my 2nd rig up and imagining pawning off a third with a e3-1235for some cash, but just wishful thinking at the moment.

You got any GPUs to load to help warm things up? Those help in a hurry...

Get a PowerEdge 2950 with dual X5450's or 5460's, that will warm things up in a hurry. Or even better, a ML370g5 with dual Xeons. I had two of those suckers running back in February. They raised the main room temp by 8-10 degrees F. At one point we had to unseal our kitchen window to let in some cool air because it was getting up to 78-80 degrees F.

No need to get old server hw... I got 3x Dell C6100 nodes, 2x Dell R410's and Dell R710 loaded with dual quad cores but can't be arsed to listen them go 24/7.
Nice machines for lab use but not for 24/7 crunching, the C6100's are exception, sure the 2U box is silent as it can get but only on low load, very low load.

Well if you thought the team had become comatose, I just totted up the new posts to the site over the last 24hrs & this forum accounted for around 50% . PG being very productive Actually, the figures don't reflect well on the health of the site in general
Wondering if the team would be better off having it's own site as several others do?

    Sam,

I share your worries on the overall health of the XS site. The reduction in traffic you mentioned and the frequent site outages we have been getting lately are indeed troublesome. I also believe that we should be looking into getting our own team website setup and then slowly transfer over to it.

You are definitely not a "Team Loud Mouth", you're just very active and Irish....

2 pints require 2 hands matey. I might have a need for some chips.

(it was really whether to have them cold or room temperature but I did not want to start a flame war. Think of the women and children. Things could've gotten ugly. )
