    Intel 910 Enterprise SSD failing

An Intel 910 SSD has failed us and caused about 25 reboots and many hours of down time.

I changed firmware, lowered speed, wiped disk, and added more cooling... nothing helped

Its an ES drive, I tried to save it.

    Not cool

For interest sake, what hardware is XS running off of? I'd LIKE to hear it's the second rig mentioned in your sig with some fat LN2 pots but I know it's going to be a lot more boring than that

Man, you should just offload XS to a real hosting service. XS's downtime is atrocious. Every time it does down for hours like that, it just kills the forum more and more.
    Fold for XS!

    I agree.

You end up killing your own child, and spending more than you'd spend on a decent hosting package.

Granted we have some down time, not the end of the world. And no, hosting this database elsewhere is not an option in the near future.

Not that I am going into what I host, but this database has always been problematic and over 12 years constant hardware upgrades every 2 years.

XS server is leftovers from my stuff, right now we are back on the RIVE with 32GB Kingston Lovo, Kingston HyperX boot SSD, 4960X cpu.

You know I do everything, its a burden and please understand that XS will survive for a long time with the invaluable data it contains.

Thanks I appreciate your concern, I know you guys love this site and hate to see it this way but I am pretty sure we will see more down time in the future.

I am personally willing to make monthly contributions towards hosting if it'll help? I feel like a crackhead that can't get their fix every time XS goes down

It would be nice if there was a back up server as a fail over.

What's the load we users put on the server. Is the set up overkill or does it just get by? A back up server would be awesome, even if it ran in a limited fashion. I have some extra low end hardware lying around, but idk if a crappy 1155 i3 would do the job.

Without this site, I think my knowledge of overclocking would be nill & I'd be scared to push CPUs like people are on other sites. How can we help, Fugger?
    You must [not] advance.

I can definitely get you a discount from a guy I used to write for that has a small (defunct) hardware site since his hosting business is so lucrative and successful. He would love to host XS... PM if you are interested, he and I met you at CES in '09 I think...
