Overclocking, it's a lifestyle
Looks really good, look at all those SATA ports and USB 3.0 ports. One of the best looking X99 boards I've seen so far.
AMD Threadripper 12 core 1920x CPU OC at 4Ghz | ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme X399 motherboard | 32GB G.Skill Trident RGB 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM | Gigabyte 11GB GTX 1080 Ti Aorus Xtreme GPU | SilverStone Strider Platinum 1000W Power Supply | Crucial 1050GB MX300 SSD | 4TB Western Digital HDD | 60" Samsung JU7000 4K UHD TV at 3840x2160
after R4BE mehh
i think i wont sell the 4930K after all :-)
THE 1 board to rule them all.
Yah ROG delivers as usual I dunno, haswell-e might be the no 1 benching platform for... everything? It really isn't that bad an idea to buy this rig to replace both 4770k and 4960x... Well, that's just me speculating, I don't know if the chips will do 6 GHz or more on ln2!
Overclocking, it's a lifestyle
Looks like they went to a diff brand or whatever of mem slot.
Hopefully now you won't beable to get a stick of ram jammed in these, the ones they got on the older boards always ticked me off.
6 layer pcb's fit lose, sometimes have to be reseated, 8 layers are fine.
If you have a vga card in the top slot and try to remove a stick you get it jammed in there real good, solution is to remove the vga 1st.
Funny thing is that's what the slots were designed for, so you didn't have to remove the vga...
I see they gimped out on the audio.
Not a big deal anyways, the r4be's audio isn't anything special, I can't see it getting much worse.
But anyways, they need to fix there x79 boards with the ivy-e cpu's...
Oh anyways, ddr4 won't be any good for probably another year or 2.
3000 c15 = 400mhz cas2... (200mhz essentially)
2400 c9 = 533mhz cas2 (266mhz)
Just a rough est, you aught to get the idea.
Besides the ram density hasn't picked up anyways.
To many anyways in my post today lol...

The coolers on mosfets and southbridge look like they will not cool very well to me . Just flat surface , no fins .
Main rig 1: Corsair Carbide 400R 4x120mm Papst 4412GL - 1x120mm Noctua NF-12P -!- PC Power&Cooling Silencer MK III 750W Semi-Passive PSU -!- Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H -!- Intel i7 4790K -!- Swiftech H220 pull 2x Papst 4412 F/2GP -!- 4x4gb Crucial Ballistix Tactical 1866Mhz CAS9 1.5V (D9PFJ) -!- 1Tb Samsung 840 EVO SSD -!- AMD RX 480 to come -!- Windows 10 pro x64 -!- Samsung S27A850D 27" + Samsung 2443BW 24" -!- Sennheiser HD590 -!- Logitech G19 -!- Microsoft Sidewinder Mouse -!- Fragpedal -!- Eaton Ellipse MAX 1500 UPS .
That's just the fad these days.
Style over functionality.
Perhaps someday they will realize that functionality is style ^^.
Regardless, those heatsinks will do alright, maybe not optimal.
But that giant heatsink next to the i/o plate just covers a bunch of tiny transistors, in theory that big chunk of metal should help the mosfets from overheating since it's connected via heatpipe.
It'll be fine.
The deluxe board looks alot better then the extreme does.
Though it's not known as an overclocking board which is a bummer...
The dual lan is really a must..., especially for the cost of these boards.
They kinda ruined it though with the plate they put on the south bridge heatsink and the white sudo armor.
The heatsink design on the x79 deluxe looked great to me, they should of kept with that, excluding the grey color of course.
Either way I'm kinda impressed.
Just they really need to think about heatsink functionality over design I totally agree with that, and dual lan... need that dual lan guys.
Looks like there's a new wireless setup now too.
Putting the p4 and eps8 connecters close to each other is good, it's this way on the r4be too.
I wonder if they put the vga hotwire thing back on the board were it belongs?, they totally screwed that feature over on the r4be and made it 100% useless.
I guess one more thing...
They should dump that useless panel thing, unless maybe they wanna upgrade it to a full on touch lcd with arm cpu and rom.
Looks very meh compared to the X99 Deluxe. Not even in the same league.
Will be upgrading my system with one of these and 5960x to push 4-way SLI Titans and 4k surround.
"Thing is, I no longer consider you a member but, rather a parasite...one that should be expunged."
Heatware
filmbot
Agreed, but then I took a closer look and noticed the deluxe doesn't have a spare bios chip.
Shame too, the deluxe really looks alot better.
We'll have to wait it out from some better shots of them, I wanna see the layout just abit better, like the ram pwm and such.
You know, this is just me being a grouch, but I'm surprised they didn't come out with the formula 1st, then 4 months later come out with the extreme.
Yeah I'm still a bit ticked about the ch4-f and e boards, freaking extreme board came out right after I got mine, and I even waited it out because of rumors of the extreme lol...
Anyways, if I were to pick a board, I'de have to go with the extreme.
Just for piece of mind, though I'de much rather go with the deluxe if it had a 2nd bios chip and was known to clock even better...
I wonder if there's gonna be a black edition, I know those don't show up for sometime after the rest of the boards, like way later...
It's kinda neat to see 2 sata express slot thingys.
Though they gotta be on some secondary controller from the looks of it.
The board to get for X99
tell my about it ,-)

PS2 port? USB2.0 ports? Single NIC? WiFi? Not terribly impressed with the backplate, and the heatsinks look atrocious from the top (although that could just be a plate cover disguising a much more efficient internal structure). Spec-wise I'm liking what I see, but I'm guessing all the bling and extras are going to kick the price up horribly. As usual with the top ROG offering, which is a shame.

Edit:
Looking at the guru3d review it looks like this has the same bandwith bios bug that the r4be has.
I want to see overclocked results in aida, the guru3d aida bench has the cpu @ 3.5ghz and that's just to low for 100% certain.
