    Hope it still works, those hairline cracks (if they are, they could very well be just deeper scratches from some debris in the sandpaper) don't look too promising for the CPU.

    I assume those cracks where there before I took the integrated heat spreader off. No change, the Cpu only unlocks L3 cache to 1 core via ACC.

    Nice pics by the way. The " cracks " seem superficial to me. The ones I created while lapping were really deep. I think it is inevitable as you sand down the die. But as long as they dont go deep down to the core it should be okay.

    Did you notice any improvment in temperature? Overclockability?

    Temps, no not really. This chip, even at this very high/er than average voltage, always sat cool even loaded.

    I did however find a combination to use with ACC to unlock an extra core. So it now runs at least as a dual core.... curious core #1 doesn't work with L3 cache, but is enabled while in non ACC mode. So far, Core #0 and #2 work with ACC activated.

    Beginning Prime95 on this now.

    Here's Prime95 7 hours 30 minutes stable. Happy little naked processor. 42c max temp.

    I wonder what is the best for heat transfer between waterblock and die. Having both really polished with very fine sand paper ( like a mirror ). Or bigger grain sand paper. The " cracks " will make the contact surface bigger, but is it better in practice? I would be willing to try if there is positiv feedback

    Silly question: Does de-lidding a solded CPU bring you a significant temp-improvement?

    So, is the risk worth it?

    I'm flirting with the idea to delid my FX-4300 to get the DIE directly on my watercooling but I'm not sure if all the trouble is worth it...

    I never did any testing before and after for the FX 8320. But I did it for my older Thuban 1090T. The benefit was about 8-9 C. You can read more about it here :

    Is it worth it? I would honestly say no, there is always the risk you end up destroying the chip. I can only advice this for hardcore overclockers who want to get the most out of their hardware and don't mind ending up with dead CPU.
