    Swiftech H220-X Review

    Introduction:

Swiftech is a company that has been in the hardware cooling sector for around 20 years fullfilling the needs of an ever growing computer enthusiast and novices alike crowd with the desire to go for better than stock cooling on their hardware , with such a vast experience under its belt they accomplish a task no other company has done before , yes that's right they have bridge the gap between the all in one liquid cooling closed loop kits and the do it yourselves customizable kits , a huge milestone accomplished by Swiftech that will change forever the way you look at the all in one closed loops kits available on the market.

This is where the Swiftech H220-X comes in , an all in one liquid cooling closed loop that is completely upgradable and fully customizable to your needs. An easy to install , completely pre-assemble , pre-fill for you all in one closed loop water-cooling kit , very easy to install and to work with. For novices and for enthusiast the H220-X offers the best performance and upgradeability available in the market beating each and everyone of all the competitions all in one closed loop liquid cooling kits available , the competiton for this H220-X are mostly made by Asetek or Coolit in the form of preassemble all in one closed loop liquid cooling kits wish uses aluminum radiators and not so high end water pump and water-block , also the small diameter/size of tubing. The big advantage of the New Swiftech H220-X it's all in the quality of the components used to build up this kit , *Powerful MCP30 high flow pump made in house by Swiftech with their own secret sauce wich is much more powerful than those used on the competition made by asetek or coolit , *Big heavy high performance 240mm cooper radiator , *The all new Apogee XL high end cpu cooler water block , *Powerful and silent 2x Helix 120x120x25mm fans with great static pressure and pwm controllable rpm speeds , *3/8 ID very flexible tubing size. But there is more , here is where the H220-X obliterate all the competition , the H220-X its fully customizable and upgradable , yes you can open this H220-X closed water loop all in one liquid cooling kit by simply unscrewing one little screw on any of the tubing connections in the water-loop, add some 3/8 ID tubing and you can attached your video card water-block and / or any watercooling blocks and / or more radiators thanks to the innovation of the H220-X the factory fittings can now be upgraded to any G1/4 compatible after-market fittings (an optional adapter is needed for the pump outlet and will be available shortly), which will allow enthusiast users to upgrade their system to 1/2" ID tubing. If you wish to add chipset watercoling blocks , add VGA water-cooling blocks , add more radiators all that is possible and much more " Endless Configurations Really " , you can get very creative with it. All this while been completely silent. You get all this for only $139.95US Dollars and comes with a 3 year full warranty for your peace of mind , while 98% of all the aio competition offers a merely 1 to 2 years warranty , the H220-X has a MTBF (mean time between failure) of 60,000 hours due to the high reliability and high quality components. The H220-X leverages Swiftech's patent pending technology initially developed with the MCR-X20 Drive series of radiators; in this technology, the pump is fully integrated into the radiator instead of being built into the waterblock. Two major improvements were implemented compared to the original MCR-X20 series of radiators. Let's get started this review shall we :

    Price: $139.95 - http://www.swiftech.com/H220-X.aspx

    Features & Benefits:

From virtually silent to comfortable audible noise levels Our design objective for all Swiftech products is always to minimize the operating noise while preserving high thermal performance characteristics. At its lowest speed settings, the H220-X system is virtually inaudible. At its maximum speed, it remains within comfortable audible noise levels.
Plug-and-Play The H220-X is probably the easiest AIO liquid cooling kit to install bar none, and is even easier to setup than many high-end air coolers.
Superior Thermal Performance Thanks to its copper & brass dual 120mm radiator, high static pressure Helix 120mm fans, more powerful DC pump than any other AIO on the market, and because it uses the Award winning Apogee™ XL waterblock, the H220-X kit delivers superior thermal performance to any comparably sized system on the market.
    Expandable/Customizable
The H220-X differentiates itself from other AIO's by its ability to be fully customized, and to support additional liquid cooled components such as graphics cards, chipset, and/or additional radiator(s).
•From a practical standpoint, this is possible thanks to: ◦The presence of a reservoir including a fill-port built into the radiator so that the system can be easily emptied or refilled by the user at will,
◦Enthusiast grade 5/8” OD (3/8" ID) black PVC tubing fastened to swivel fittings with an elegant clamping system that users can easily remove and safely re-install.
◦The factory tubing and fittings can be replaced by aftermarket G1/4 compatible offerings of your choice (an optional G1/4 adapter is needed for the pump outlet, and is scheduled for release on 8/15/2014).

•From a thermal performance standpoint, this is made possible by: ◦The high thermal capacity of the dual 120mm copper and brass radiator
◦The powerful high-pressure pump capable of driving sufficient flow to cool multiple devices in the loop.
◦The award winning flagship Apogee XL waterblock

Automatic speed control or fine-tuning right out of the box Both the pump and the fans are PWM compliant devices, allowing the H220-X to be recognized and speed-controlled by the motherboard depending on CPU temperature just like any standard CPU cooler. As a bonus, the system includes a PWM splitter allowing connection of up to 8 PWM devices which can then be controlled as one by the motherboard.
Maintenance-free As shipped from our factory and installed as directed (*), the H220-X CPU cooler requires no maintenance during its 3 year warranty period; a system refill is recommend at the end of 3 years. Under extreme ambient conditions, the system may need more frequent refills. If upgraded by the user, the interval of time between refills will depend on how users implement their customized loop.

Reliability Both fans and pump are rated for a 60,000 MTBF (Meantime Between Failures)
Support With over 10 years of experience designing, manufacturing and setting up liquid cooling systems, Swiftech? customer service can assist you in setting up and troubleshooting your system 6 days a week, 12 hours a day.

    Quick Installation Guide

The patent pending H220-X liquid cooling system is Swiftech's next generation all-in-one CPU cooler featuring a dual 120mm copper radiator, and enthusiast grade pump and wateblock. As in previous Swiftech offerings, the product remains entirely focused on low to inaudible operating noise with extreme thermal performance, and it is engineered to appeal to the broadest possible spectrum of performance oriented users:

    CASUAL USERS:
•The kit is shipped factory pre-filled, ready for plug-and-play installation, and it is maintenance free during its warranty period.
•Both Swiftech's powerful MCP30 pump and high-pressure Helix fans are PWM compliant devices, allowing the H220-X to be recognized and speed-controlled by the motherboard depending on CPU temperature, just like a regular cooling fan.
•As a bonus, the system also includes our PWM splitter allowing connection of up to 8 PWM devices which can then be controlled as one by the motherboard.
•Finally, thanks to a clear and user-friendly pictorial installation guide, it could not be easier to install and setup!

    ENTHUSIAST USERS:
•The system can be entirely customized thanks to easily replaceable tubing and fittings.
•Thanks to its powerful pump it can support additional liquid cooled components such as graphics cards and/or additional radiator(s).
•The factory fittings can now be upgraded to any G1/4 compatible after-market fittings (an optional adapter is needed for the pump outlet and will be available shortly), which will allow enthusiast users to upgrade their system to 1/2" ID tubing if they wish to.

The H220-X leverages Swiftech's patent pending technology initially developed with the MCR-X20 Drive series of radiators; in this technology, the pump is fully integrated into the radiator instead of being built into the waterblock. Two major improvements were implemented compared to the original MCR-X20 series of radiators:

•thanks to a revised placement of the pump and reservoir, the H220-X radiator is now the most compact dual 120mm heat exchanger on the market, thus facilitating installation of the unit with any dual radiator compatible case.

•the reservoir is now transparent and LED backlit, allowing users to inspect the coolant level while enjoying the inner workings of the pump as can be seen below in a customized system that we presented for CES 2014.

Finally, as an immediate benefit of this configuration we were able to use our new extreme performance flagship waterblock the Apogee™ XL which resulted in enhanced thermal performance and flow rate, not to mention superb cosmetic appeal thanks to the XL's multi-color back-lighting capabilities. While only recently released, the Apogee XL has already received two Gold Awards

    Testing Methodology/Hardware Used And Settings:

I'm using WPrime v1.55 1024M CPU stability test and Cinebench R15 x64bit CPU test to load all the 4 cores with HT On of my Intel Core i7 4790K . Real temp will be the program of choice to measure the temperatures while on load for max/min/average numbers. Testing is done in a control environment of ~ 24c using a K-Type probe with my calibrated digital thermometer for accuracy of ambient temperature readings , the probe is placed 3 inches away from the intake Helix fans mounted in a push configuration on the radiator. Stock Speeds and voltages of the 4790K will be used as well as a high overclock 100% stable of 4.8Ghz at 1.35v. I will overclock the cpu to maximum 24/7 100% stable overclock of 4.8Ghz repeating the same testing done as stock speeds and voltages , i will give it a try at maximum Mhz for CPU-Z validation purposes at the end and finalizing the testing portion.

Hardware And Software Used And Settings:

    Swiftech H220-X
    Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97
    Intel Core i7 4790K cpu
    G.Skill 2x4GB DDR3 2000 Cas9
    Sapphire R7-240 1GB
eVGA Supernova G2 1300w Power Supply Unit
    OCZ Agility 3 SSD

Windows 7 x64bit fully updated , all updates installed.
    RealTemp 3.70
    WPrime v.1.55
    Cinebench R15 x64bit
    CPU-Z v.1.70 x64bit
Asus TurboV Core overclocking utility v. 1.00..15

    * The noise you hear on the background of the videos is my 15,000BTU big window air conditioner working at high speed to maintain 24c controlled ambient temperatures since I live on a tropical island and is very hot summer time *

** I have turned OFF completely the Noisy , Huge 15,000BTU window air conditioner in my Test-Lab Only during this 2 tests for accuracy on noise levels , no back ground noise , what you hear is only the Swiftech H220-X working , all other testing you will hear a loud back ground noise that comes from the air conditioner working and not the noise coming from the H220-X **

First let's hear how much noise the h220-X makes shall we.

Silent mode / Water-Pump and Fans controlled by motherboard PWM. Listen to the video and you can hear nothing , is completely silent amazing really , absolutely wonderful performance while completely silent

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_eJweOsO9A

Now let's use maximum speed in the water-pump and the fans , High performance mode controlled by the motherboard PWM. you can hear a little tiny bit the pump working , not much noise , thumbs up.

Testing data ( they say a picture is worth more than a thousand words , on this case all the data is on video in youtube , capture by me live for you , no gimmicks here or complicated graphics with Deltas and complicated , gimmicky charts here , only real time numbers very easy to understand as you watch the videos , irrefutable proof of the temperature numbers the Swiftech H220-X puts out , that's how I Roll )

    * Swiftech H220-X water-pump and fans are controlled by the motherboard PWM , that's the beauty of this aio water-cooler it can be controlled by you for completely silent operation or for very high performance mode , if you prefer anything in between that suits your needs you can do that too*

    Conclusion and Reviewer Opinion

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this aio water-cooling unit is the best I have ever tested , starting with all the Swiftech innovations and very high end hardware that makes the Swiftech H220-X ( Apogee XL high end water-block , 240mm thick and heavy Cooper Radiator , high flow powerful MCP30 water-pump controllable via PWM , built in Reservoir with clear lighted side window and a filling port , high static pressure silent 2x 120x25 Helix Fans PWM controllable , high end 3/8x vinyl very flexible black tubing , 8 Way PWM Splitter-Sata as a bonus , inter-changeable color plates for the water-block lighted clear window to the completely new design , it does rivals and perform better than some of the much more expensive custom made water-cooling loops.

The performance is way ahead of the competition , in fact there is not one aio water-cooler that can offer the performance and upgradeability of the Swiftech H220-X , it's a clear choice when looking to buy a new aio water-cooler , look no further the Swiftech H220-X is right for you. The Swiftech H220-X is the future , the next generation in aio water-cooling gear. Do not get stuck in older generation clones aio water-cooling completely closed and non-upgradable , the future is here right now !

As Michael Buffer would say in a boxing match at La Vegas - Let's Get Ready To Rumble!!!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6eQ78HCGEA

    Overclocker Approved !

    Swiftech H220-X Review Part 2 of 2

Overclocking Report and aio water-coolers shootout , Swiftech H220-X versus Corsair Hydro Series H105 240mm Radiator , Wish 240mm aio water-cooling kit would perform better ?

    Hardware And Software Used Settings:

Swiftech H220-X and Corsair Hydro Series H105
    Asus Maximus VII Hero Z97
Intel Core i7 4790K CPU Haswell
    G.Skill 2x4GB DDR3 2000 Cas9
    Sapphire R7-240 1GB
eVGA Supernova G2 1300w Power Supply Unit
    OCZ Agility 3 SSD
Swiftech TiM Mate Thermal Grease was used in both aio water-coolers on each mount.

Windows 7 x64bit fully updated , all updates installed.
    RealTemp 3.70
    WPrime v.1.55
    Cinebench R15 x64bit
    CPU-Z v.1.70 x64bit
Asus TurboV Core overclocking utility v. 1.00..15

The long testing has been done , finished , and we got a winner by a big margin. I have tested for maximum CPU stable overclock running WPrime v.1.55 1024m CPU Stability Test and Cinebench R15 CPU Test. My rule of thumb and maximum temperature for a fragile 22mm Haswell cpu is 80c , anything pass 80c is unacceptable in my opinion.

Swiftech H220-X was able to hit a maximum 100% stable overclock of 4900Mhz at a very high voltage of 1.405v cpu v.core staying under 79C all the time during the testing period at 100% cpu load. Incredible performance by the H220-X , it was able to handle all those volts in a hot running Haswell cpu like a Boss , the heat load was massive to handle.

The contender for the Swiftech H220-X was the Corsair H105 , and I was very disappointed by this aio , I expected better performance really. Corsair H105 was able to hit only 4800Mhz Not completely stable at a maximum voltage of 1.35v cpu v.core only , ( plenty of BSOD + Errors and I did 3 re-mounts of the aio to try my best and give it a good chance to match the same clocks 4900Mhz at 1.405v as the H220-X , but it was impossible as you can see it in the videos at the end ). The very loud noise of the fans and the water-pump working at maximum speeds were trying very hard to cool down the cpu , it was able to finish the testing with temperatures of 82c at 100Mhz less than the H220-X and .55 volts less v.core. The Corsair H105 was unable to handle the heat load of the haswell cpu at 4900Mhz and 1.405v. voltage , so I had to do a 100Mhz downclock and use much less voltages to get it somewhat stable at 4800Mhz and only 1.35v , that's all the H105 had at maximum Fans , Pump speeds , it ran out of cooling performance that's the truth.

Clearly the very high end components and innovations of the Swiftech H220-X makes a big difference in Perfromance and it shows , all at a very low noise almost silent. To maxed out your cpu while looking for those last Mhz and 100% stability I can highly recommend the H220-X , unrival performance while silent.

Big thumbs up to Swiftech for bringing into the market such a great product , All those innovations , High end components and thinking out of the box from Swiftech on the H220-X is what separate the Men from the Boys.

The Winner Of This Overclocking Report and Shootout Is The Swiftech H220-X Gold CUP Award Winner For High Performance and Innovations !

Video evidence that the Corsair H105 cannot handle the same heat load as the Swiftech H220-X , BSOD Galore and too many errors while trying to match the same clocks and voltages as the Swiftech H220-X 4900Mhz 1.405v. , all captured live for you in the form of videos as irrefutable proof of the testing done and the numbers provided on this overclocking report shootout. I was seeing 90c + before crashing , tried many times to make it run , but it was a no go.

Trying 4900Mhz at 1.405v. in the corsair H105 never happened in WPrime 1.55 1024M CPU Stability Test , temperatures quickly rising upwards of 90c and crashed BSOD in the beginning of the test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxa4...ature=youtu.be

Trying 4900Mhz at 1.405v. in the corsair H105 never happened in cinebench R15 , take a look why - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPnP...ature=youtu.be

    Great writeup !

    - In the manual they recommend attaching the pwm connector of the pump to the first and monitored plug on the 8 way splitter .
Why is this recommended ? Any advantages to it over attaching a fan to #1 ? I always attached one of the fans to port 1 .

    - To me it seems that those Helix fans are topped out pretty fast when running heavy cpu stresses like prime/linkpack/OCCT etc. . RPM wise they hit their maximum fast while temperatures keep rising . If they would be able to spin faster , load temps would stop rising sooner , at least thats what Ive seen on my H220 . And thats why I have chosen Papst 4412 F/2GP fans (2900rpm max,5.6 mmH2O,100CFM) over the standard helix fans as they are very silent around 1400rpm but if needed in high cpu stress testing they can handle 2900rpm . In my testing they performed better and had more headroom .
What is your opinion on the Helix fans ? Are they best suited in situations where absolute silence is required combined with a low to medium stress on the cpu ? Did you also see temps rising after they hit their maximum rpm ?

What are the specs of the Helix fans ? They could bring the price of the kit down by not including the 2 fans .

    - Whats the tube length of the unit ? Ive read they have shortened the tubes , which might make it more difficult to have the rad in the sidepanel .

    - How far is the pump/res away from the rad itself ? There is no space to install a fan behind the pump/res ?

    - To be able to vacuum clean the rad behind the pump/res the pump/res needs to be removed ?

    - What type/brand is the cooling paste delivered ? I want to know if it is better/more suitable than Gelid Solutions GC extreme or Noctua NT-H1 .

Thank you for the good feedback guys , appreciate it.

@CrimInalA - Wow dude so many questions at the same time LOL ( Joke ) , ask as many questions as you want and I will try to answer all the questions to the best of my knowledge

"The first red cap PWM connector #1 on the 8 way splitter is the one that can control PWM speed , the other 7 connectors will work at the same speed you choose for the connector # 1 on the 8 way splitter , it is provided for easy of use and future proof if you want to connect more fans without saturating the motherboard fan connectors as sometimes the motherboards do not provide enough fan connectors , also in my opinion a hate to see a gazillion fans hooked up to a motherboard with a cluster mess of cables hanging from the motherboard fan connectors , but that's me and my own personal opinion , is your choice where do you want to connect your fans. There is no difference or advantages to attach the pump to the cpu fan connector or the 8 way fan splitter as both work in PWM mode.

The Helix fans provided are the best choice based on silent cooling/performance while having high static pressure , remember this unit is tuned for low noise while having great performance while silent , yes you can use other fans wish can be very noisy at high speeds and of course a bit better performance but at the cost of the low noise and silent cooling , is a balancing act really where Swiftech did really well at it. I can use my 220cfm Delta fans on my H220-X to have a tiny bit more performance but it will totally negate the purpose of the Helix fans silent operation . You can watch the video posted on the review while having the water-pump and Helix fans at their lowest speeds and you will see for yourself that the temperatures will hit a wall and stay there all the time while the cpu been utilize 100% in all cores while running Cinebench R15 CPU test and WPrime 1024M CPU stability test , I did not see any increase in temperatures once the cpu heats up while testing this unit my entire time they perform very well.

Helix fans specifications read it right here: http://www.swiftech.com/Helix120-PWM.aspx

You just don't bake a cake half way do you ? Why Swiftech would sell a complete aio water-cooling kit without fans ? It would make no sense to sell a complete water-cooling aio kit without fans , hence they are always included. The price of this kit is really a great price if you factor in every part of the kit is a very high end quality part , do the math and tell me how much it would cost you to make a custom made water-loop with this same specifications , it will come out very expensive if you buy all the parts by itself really. If you do buy all the parts included in the H220-X and DYS this same loop the cost will be upwards of $230US dollars. You really get a great value out of the H220-X , incredible value really for what you get.

The 3/8 Tubing is 11 inches long on each one of the tubes , see pictures below. Enough length of tubing to mount it on most computer cases on the side panel , top , back , front or bottom of the case. The water-pump mounted on the radiator have a few mm between the rad and the pump itself , enough for the air to circulate around the water-pump , you cannot mount a fan behind the pump , it is obvious if you did look at the review pictures , if not go back and take a deep look at the pictures already provided on the review. You can mount a maximum 3 fans for push-pull if you wish , but in my opinion and vast experience for so many years water-cooling hardware it hardly makes a difference on this kind of radiator and set up. Please use you prefer method of cleaning , I prefer to use an air compressor to blow away the dust build up , you use vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of the radiator , in my opinion if you have a strong vacuum cleaner there is no need to remove the pump. You really did not read the full review did you ? It is obvious. The thermal paste included is Swiftech TiM-Mate Thermal paste , there are 2 HUGE pictures posted in the review of it where you can obviously and clearly see the Swiftech TiM-Mate thermal paste syringe , go back to the pictures gallery and see for yourself picture # 4 and # 5 is right there , also in the specification is written as well.

    It's an MCP30...

I guess this page may have answers about the pump in a while...if they choose to sell it separately...

EDIT : One freaking digit read wrong...shouldn't post when sleepy...

It is a revised and better version of the one used on the H220 , higher flow rate for longer loop runs to include multiple water-cooling blocks and / or more radiators. Right now I'm doing a long test for a few weeks , running ; The Swiftech H-220-X aio MCP30 water-pump alone on this loop , I added 1x Dual 140mm Radiator Swiftech MCR240 Quiet Power Series + 1 Single 140mm radiator Swiftech MCR140 Quiet Power Series + 2x Swiftech Komodo R9-LE Full Cover water-blocks + Swiftech Maelstrom 5 1/4" Dual Bay Basic Standalone Reservoir all installed in a 760T Full tower and is completely silent while the performance is outstanding. This is my personal Mod - Rig built I'm doing , work in progress. So far I did some gaming today for 4 hours non-stop and the temperatures of nmy CPU 4790K overclock at 4800Mhz at 1.35v never went above 56c , both R9-290X at stock clocks were running at 45c card #1 and 46c card #2 , VRM 1 on both cards around 37c , I was monitoring the temperatures for those 4 hours using two instances of GPU-Z open in the sensors tab f, one for each R9-290X video card and real Temp for monitoring the CPU temperatures. All of that long water-loop was running off one single water-pump , the H220-X MCP30 water-pump A+++

Its possible I have some new revision of older H220 (i have no molex, but SATA power)?
Do you will have X99 platform and test this H220X later with this hungry CPus (5960x? ). I would be like for it
How is it with Crosshair V Formula-Z compatibility? With H220 I had small issues (but nothing what I can fix :-)) )

I'm sorry Michael but I will no update to a x99 , Core i7 5960X 8 core CPU platform as I have retired from professional extreme overclocking after 11 years in the hobbie :/ and I will not be buying very expensive hardware anytime soon. I have my oldest son that will start College next week ( I'm very proud of him ) and paying for College is very , very expensive ... as well as my other 2 kids will start school as well , paying school for 3 kids is very expensive. So for now I cannot afford very expensive hardware , LN2 , Cascades. SS and all the toys I used to play with .
My Family always #1 , hobbies can wait

As per Asus CVF-Z AMD motherboard yes it is 100% compatible.

Ron they have started to sale in retail and e-tail stores already , but they ran out of stock quick as this is the best selling aio water-cooling kit for Swiftech and they do sale very fast , so keep an eye open and act fast , in order for you to be able to get one you need to check this stores every few hours and hit buy and check out asap if they are in stock before they run out of stock again. Swiftech are pushing out this units to the market as soon and as fast as they can , but the overwhelming water-cooling loving crowd are watching out for this aio kit like hawks , they keep doing the F5 old trick in all of the websites this unit is sold and buying them at the moment they appear online in stock. keep an eye on this websites Ron and good luck:

    Some questions!

Connections can, exchange it for, other measures? Example exchange, for bitspower?

The reservoir is easy to remove it? and put back? Would you like to switch the LED.

Thank you and sorry for my crappy english!
