    OC and 8350/9370/9590 BINNING

Hi all, haven't been around here much lately! I'm planning to buy another cpu to OC for a fast daily driver in a second system. My 1.5 year old 8350 does 5GHZ on water, I'll likely move it to a lower end board and use the new cpu in my C5F-Z. Are new 8350's binned to death to supply cpus for 9370/9590's?

Trying to decide between the following cpus at Newegg Canada (for example), I'm looking for > 5GHZ and bang for my buck.

    8350 $199CDN
    9370 $248CDN
    9590 $315CDN

I don't want to pay for the 9590 unless I feel it has noticeably more potential than the 9370. The 8350 is tempting, but I fear they have binned the high OC potential out of them. Which probably puts me with the 9370. Anyone bought and overclocked these on water lately? Again, I'm talking daily driver on water, not suicide runs.

    Get the FX-83x0.

The only difference between the FX-8 and FX-9 series parts is that the FX-9 series has been binned based on a single characteristic: leakage.
All of the FX-9 series parts have ultra high leakage characteristics which is not desireable for air or water cooling.

I figured as much, plus the process should be more mature now. However I bought an 8320 8 months ago to put in a C4F system that I sold (yes, C4F, it does work), and I gave it a test run in my Gigabyte 990FXA-UD7 first. IIRC, I couldn't get more than 4.6 out of it without a lot of voltage (I probably took it to 1.55, but can't find my notes anymore).

I know it's a lottery, and I'm worried about getting another sub-par chip.

Anyone have any 8350 OC results from a recent batch?

hard to say, ebcause I have on FX-9590, which is 5.1 GHz stable with allinone liquid.
But I heard, most of 2014 batchs FX-8350 are good CPUs. I dont know, because my last FX is from 50 week of 2013.

Is yours a recent batch tbone? It doesn't sound like you've pushed it to it's maximum potential yet either, but settled into a sweet spot for a modest oc and reasonable volts.

Stilt, I understand that you are saying the binning process isn't binning on traits that make for a good overclocking water chip. And I thank you for the advice

It's just that I couldn't get that 8320 past 4.6, and I'm looking for more. I suppose I could try for better, and just relegate the new chip to the secondary box if it doesn't oc any better than the one I already have.

Flank3r, thanks for the tip on the 2014 8350's. Not that I have any control over what I'll get. And I refuse to rma a chip that works fine, but doesn't meet my high expectations.

Anyone else with an 8350/9370/9590 from a recent batch?

So, I received a 1402 chip, but can't test it properly. My main rig is waiting on my time and a couple of parts to finish the loop described in my sig, so it's in limp mode on air ATM.

The secondary box has an M5A97 R2.0, which doesn't OC for crap. 4+1 phase. This was a system with some nice parts in it that I bought cheap, but I can see I'll have to replace the mobo. I'll start a new thread for that, looking for a budget oc board. This one struggles to get either 8350 stable at 4.2, despite one of them being known to hit 5.0. I'm using budget semi-custom water in the rig, basically a Swiftech H220 with a 2x120 rad added (giving 2) and an old gpu block that is in the loop but not attached to the gpu yet lol.

The only potential upside is that the new chip has a lower VID, 1.3 vs. 1.35 on my older chip.

I'm saying I don't know yet :P Budget rig has water but a crappy board, I'm replacing the mobo likely with a UD3. Main rig has a C5F-Z but I'm waiting on a second 290X block to complete my loop, and don't really have the time to assemble it, test, then drain it, rinse and repeat when the block arrives.

I will post back with my findings though.

I was gonna grab the new swiftech h220-x when i see a review.

Maybe I can achieve 5ghz stable on my 2 yr old chip ;-)

I achieved that, sort of, with my older chip. 1242 PGT. 5Ghz stable with OCCT, but not P95. That was with my UD7 and water, haven't tried it yet on the C5F-Z. But I'll likely be trying that chip first on the UD3 I ordered, and the H220 + MCR220.

That GA-970A UD3 must be gold

I went out looking for one with "No Joy" --- looks like it's the GB 970-A Gaming or the Asus 970 Pro 'Aura' for me.

In the States, the Egg has a combo deal with the FX-6350 (with Wraith cooler), CM Hyp 212, and 'Ashes' key for $103US -- with promo code EMCREBJ36.

I felt froggy and had to jump

Think should Not be a Problem
    My 9370 does 2600 in Prime @ 1,31v
    But the 9590 is better
But need an better Mainboard first
5GHz should run with around 1.45v
Short Prime Test with 5.2ghz @ 1.55v was no Problem
But on the GB Mainboard the v-Core ist extremely unstable
I am searching a cheap Asus formula Z ore asrock extreme 9 for real CPU Tests

Til i have an better Mainboard i will selekt other FX again
Maybe i can find One who does 4.5ghz with around 1.25v
