Guys, lets make this one clean.

Behold, the new NVIDIA graphics card has just been pictured.
We might be looking at the first pictures of the second generation Maxwell engineering sample.

A Chinese website called GamerSky has just posted what seems to be a GeForce GTX 880 engineering sample.
Of course, we don?t know that for sure, but GamerSky crew titled their post exactly with such codename.
We also have the picture of the GPU itself, and judging from the markings (1421A1),
it was manufactured somewhere in the 21st week of this year.

It seems to be H5GQ4H24MFR-R2C - 4Gbit - 7.0Gbps chip - according to Hynix Datasheets from here: http://www.electronicsdatasheets.com...5gq4h24mfrr2c/

I think if it was the medium-size 20nm chip then it wouldn't be so big.

I think that's a big-medium 28nm maxwell which will be 15-30% faster than gtx 780. that would leave the big 20nm chip to launch like titan did, expensive and way before the consumer chip.

and if leaky board makers have chips right now, then the launch will be as soon as viable in the market. I assume that means september. unless someone knows something about new video cards being profitable in the summer

I'm just hoping I can maintain the patience to wait for GM210 :P SLi 680s getting a little long in the tooth, and for surround resolutions that 4GB/8GB VRAM sounds mighty tasty (I strongly suspect 8GB is just for the ES part and retail will launch with 4).

Well, Maxwell has been long rumored to have integrated arm cores. Seems like Maxwell is a lot more than that though -- it's an SOC! I bet you can run standalone using the extra power connection, or perhaps via a PCI-e interface that only supplies power.

Edit: Rumor on the street, Nvidia might showcase a demo with GTX880 on PDXLAN. Like they did with Kepler, running an app in the background.

That's basically what I was asking in a roundabout way . Also curious of process. By "big without arm" I meant is it basically the same for gamers .

I have to imagine it won't have too much use for gaming. Think of it this way, the arm cores are weaker than any decent x86 cpu. Thus if a coder needing additional cpu power, wouldn't they just take it from the original source? The only advantage I can think of would be direct access to the gpu memory bus, which has tons of bandwidth. But who knows, Nvidia themselves could write drivers that appropriately make use of them.

I personally am very excited to see what it can do for speeding up simulations. Computer Aided Engineering has even taken over the automotive industry, just imagine how much nicer our stuff will become if the companies can do 3x as many simulations in the same Design 'N Review period.
