Funny I thought I was stable with AIDA64 but just ran the x264 benchmark and crashed with a WHEA. Passed IBT also on max but failed x264.
Need to adjust my fixed input voltage I think, up to 1.85v.

X264 basically will tell u in 20 min (8 encoding runs) if you are stable enuf:

yes, x264 5.x is very hard benchmark. Or you can try y-cruncher test, its crazy load :-D

Hi Guys,

I am new to this site and also new to overclocking in general. Picked up myself a 4790K last month for my first OC’d Gaming Rig.
My chip’s sweet spot seems to be at 4.6GHz, 1.27vcore. Stable testing OCCT, IBT, CB (10x in a row), 3DMARK and AIDA64. Temps rarely hit 80C on any of these. All stress tests pass except Prime95 blend; after a few hrs it freezes or BSOD. No increase in vcore seems to stabilize after a few hrs running P95 (still haven’t figured out why).

Now, here is my problem. It may sound strange, but it is something I deal with on a daily basis and it is very influential on my personal stress levels and overall happiness.
My feelings towards the numbers 45 and 46 are similar to the symptoms of Tetraphobia. In short, I will avoid them at all costs because they make me feel extremely uneasy. The numbers 5 and 6 just do not sit well with me. The numbers 2, 4, 7 and 9 happen to be numbers I am most comfortable with. Every day I make decisions based on these numerical biases. Whether it is what volume I set my radio to or what cooking time I put on the microwave, the numbers 5 and 6 are always avoided, ESPECIALLY if they are the last numeral in a set.

I was planning on getting a 4770K, but when the 4790K was released, it almost seemed like I was destined to own one. So you can imagine my discontent when I was only able to achieve a 4.6GHz clock. I cannot accept 4.6GHz as my speed, it’s irrational, yes, but I just can’t get over it.
A 4.7GHz clock on my 4790K is WAY more important to me than a longer lifespan at 4.6GHz. If I can’t achieve a 4.7GHz clock, I will have no choice but to drop it down to 4.4GHz.

I was hoping that one of the more experienced overclockers on here could find it in their heart to look over my settings and tell me if there is something I am doing wrong. I have spent many hours trying to get a completely stable 4.7GHZ with no luck. I don’t mind upping voltage, but I would rather have a veteran overclocker’s opinion on the matter before I go trying to up my vcore to 1.4 + and/or delidding.

My current settings are:

AI Overclock Tuner: XMP
BCLK: 100
CPU Core Ratio: 47
All Cores Synced
Max CPU Cache Ratio: 42
Internal PLL Overvoltage: Enabled
DRAM: DDR3-1600MHz
CPU Core Voltage: 1.372v Manual (Will change to + Adaptive once stable)
CPU Cache Voltage: 1.2v Manual (Will change to + Adaptive once stable)
CPU Input Voltage: 1.9v
DRAM Voltage: 1.5v
SVID Support: Disabled
CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
CPU LLC: Lv 9 (out of 9)
CPU Current Capability: 130%
EVERYTHING ELSE SET TO AUTO

At the settings listed, I can boot to windows just fine at 4.7GHz. I can run CB CPU once or twice with a score of around 920 and run OCCT for no more than 20 mins. IBT and Prime95 are a no-go due to temps > 90C.
I feel like I’m almost there, but due to temps, vcore exceeding 1.377 is not really an option unless I delid (which I am trying to avoid).

Any responses would be appreciated.

Also, I have ordered a GB 770 Windforce that is arriving next week, so all OCing has been done w/o a discrete GPU. I’m really not sure if that would have any effect on my results or not.

note: i have recently joined a few OC sites in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the process, if you see a similar thread created by me on another site, it is because i am trying to get as many takes on my situation as possible. I will read and, more than likely, reply to each response posted.

what is maximum safe voltage to use 24/7 in option "CPU CASH VOLTAGE"

the cpu is an 4690K and I have cash voltage 1.20v with 45x

4800mhz_1.30V/cpu + 4600mhz_1.31v/cache (1.95V vccin under load)

Super stable, aida64 stability test 7hours.
occt:cpu_large data set = 1hour stable
occt:linpack = 1hour stable
Cinebench loop,xtu bench, aida64 benches, pc and 3d marks..etc..
All this with 70-85C max(delided cpu). No crashes/freezes whatsoever...

Now, the problem is 4900Mhz. Cant get it stable even with 1.4V. Thats 0.1V increase but only 100mhz gain..
Tried vccin 2.02 under load and didnt help.... Can run aida64 stability test for hours, can do XTU for hours too, can do cinebench loops, wprime 1024M etc... But in occt:cpu it crashes to bsod in 5 mins.

Any ideas ?

clock for clock 3770k is what i have now, OC to 4.6 with corsair h110 is a 4790k worth it for me? or will performance differnce be very small?

Same for me actually.
I'm currently running a 3770 @ 5Ghz and won't likely benefit at all from upgrading at this time. And so I've conceded to the fact that I'd be better off waiting for these new chips to match or exceed my current clocks before making a move. Though 8 cores certainly sounds sweet.
