    Computex 2014 - GIGABYTE launches GA-Z97X-SOC Force LN2

Computex is starting tomorrow, but that does not mean that the goodies didn?t start to show up yet. As the dragon boat festival takes place today in Taiwan, and GIGABYTE?s press conference is ready to take off at the Brown Sugar club, we took a sneak peak at GIGABYTE?s lates motherboard. And guess what ? it is built for overclockers, and not just any overclockers but extreme overclockers. Yaaay!

BTW, maybe you have noticed that now we have lab501 in English too

At GIGABYTE's press conference, hicookie also demo'ed a setup running 8GB of memory at 1800 MHz 13-21-21-45 Memtest stable.

No cooler mounting holes in the board is one more difference.

Charles no mounting holes and only two ram slots seems to be the key difference between the SOC Force and this model. But this looks like "the" board to clock MFR, wondering how it will do with legacy ic's?

    Pro's don't attach their pot?

What's the best hold down when there are no holes?

Maybe the japanese clamp down mounting will rise in popularity now.

    Example by Gyrock:

    Example by Mikecdm:

Japanese overclockers, including the members of Team Japan, have been using this mounting style for a long time.

With heavy copper pots letting gravity work its magic might do the trick, but with lighter pots and for air cooling I'd prefer some mounting pressure, but that's just me.

What is the problem with the holes? How is it any better without holes?
