Asus says no thank you to Intel on not supporting devils canyon on Z87

Intel was attempting to force users wanting to use their newest Devils canyon unlocked K series processors to upgrade their motherboards to Intel's Z97 chipset motherboards. This did not sit well with alot of users who had just upgraded to a z87 motherboard. Asus has been a bit rebellious as of late as they recently chose to ignore an Intel NDA regarding their Z97 series.
Well it looks like they are at it again. Most, if not all of their Z87 boards have received a bios update allowing the use of Intel's devil canyon processors. This is also backed up on their Cpu support lists.

Does anyone remembers this, from before Devil's Canyon was mentioned for the first time? Haswell Refresh was supposed to have some differences with regular Haswell (Improved TIM, required new Chipsets, etc), yet it ended up being identical to the original Haswell. I think than what originally was going to be Haswell Refresh was renamed to Devil's Canyon. If Devil's Canyon works on 8-Series Chipsets even through we were always told that it didn't, I'm inclined to believe that Broadwell MAY work too on the old Chipsets and not only H97/Z97, assuming the Motherboard accommodates those design changes (Late arriving budget models based on 8-Series Chipsets, as 9-Series only has H97 and Z97 and these are not budget).

Thats nice of ASUS, but to be honest, if you already have a Z87 setup, upgrading to a Z97 CPU will be pointless as the performance will be minimal.

I've actually changed my mind about Asus, because for them to go it alone in providing full support for previous model motherboards is quite extraordinary. It means that the customer stops getting shafted with Intel's latest chipset and cpu release which is now occurring every year.

It would be nice to have the latest CPU running soundly in your humble Z87 motherboard instead of being forced to buy the next released chipset to run it. Nice one Asus.

1) It's still Haswell, refreshed; and
2) Chipzilla does not take kindly to being hit in the wallet (I smell a microcode lock, or a nefarious 'WIntel' OS update blocking maneuver).

I know MSI is doing it on at least some models (Z87-GD65 for example) and BIOS revisions for it have been live for it since feb 24
