How Cheap Do You Expect the FX 9590 to get before it disappears?

I'm wondering if it will end up like the Phenom II 970/975/980 and 1100T and disappear suddenly while I play the waiting game. The prices now... pretty tempting. It is down to $260 USD at the Egg. I'm considering replacing my Phenom II 965 but still not entirely impressed by the old reviews I dug up to see what I could gain.

I'd get one if your board can take it.

I missed the sale while I was dusting off my watercooling gear and shopping around for some more bits and pieces to get it back in place. I had already modded my case to fit a H220 so I'm going to put that back in but with some extras. I am getting another pair of the Helix PWM fans to do push/pull. I also picked up the smallest reservoir I could find plus a male-to-male G1/4 extender so the reservoir can sit directly on top of the H220 res while still clearing the height of the fans + fan wire grills. This way I can directly monitor the bleeding of air and water levels without a screwdriver. MicroCenter has a single chip left for a bit under $297 USD after tax locally but I can wait. Hopefully that Newegg sale wasn't a fluke.

As was stated earlier, these CPUs require a very stout board to run properly. The stock VID is in the 1.54v range typically so if you're not prepared for it, it'll be like trying to tame a wild horse.

These CPU`s are basically the same as 8320 , different stock multis and maybe a bit higher PROBABILITY of a better chip thru binning, but no guarantees. Is it worth adittional 100$ ?

no, 9590s are better than 8320s. I can compare it to good 8350s chips. I had no bad 9590 , but I had no eexcelent 9370. There is the difference.

So in essence youre saying there CAN be a difference. And i said the same.Thing is theyre the same production/transistor wise, only binning CAN be better.Anyhow 8350 is an option also.Unless you just want the "top dog" for the sake of having a top dog. Than, i dont think theyre gonna go below 200$.

I am using the ASRock Extreme9. If needed, I can always rig a 120mm fan blowing across the mosfet heatsink.

Different bins being almost identical is nothing new to me at all. When I first started overclocking with a Athlon 64 3000+ I knew that the 3200+ and 3400+ were essentially the same except for a few extra MHz overclock over a large enough sample size. How much that extra binning is worth varies both with the potential and person's budget. As I stated in my OP, the question at hand is will this top bin drop so low in price that it becomes a non-issue or will it get EOL'ed before that point occurs. Instead of the Phenom II 965 I am using now I would have a 980 had I a crystal ball that predicted the best sale before it had disappeared from Newegg and MicroCenter. I am not entirely against the idea of purchasing a FX-8350 either. I'm just weighing options.

I bit on the shellshocker deal when it came back. Maybe the fab fairies will have blessed me with a good clocker this time. Speaking of, I forget whether it was Newegg or Amazon but one of the user reviewers was saying he bought the FX-9590 "not for games" but to surf the web and such.

What kind of clock speed can you get out of these with a good board and good cooling?

    Good info is here:

I think that he got to 5.2 GHz. I am testing now and cooling the VRMs and the socket for hopefully a better result that does not get too hot.

We have totally different systems so I won't be able to do a direct comparison to your power usage. I do have some rough power numbers available through my UPS and I could also plug my PSU into a Kill-A-Watt and test different voltages. FlanK3r's thread had some photos of his Kill-A-Watt as well.

This arrived Friday but I haven't had it in the system yet. I'm going to take my Swiftech H220 back out and customize my loop before I am ready for this heat.

Great, I look forward to your result. I have one with the same stepping.
