Intel Haswell refresh and Devils Canyon reviews/info

Reviews of Haswell refresh (working in 8x chipset and 9x chipset)

Devils Canyon chip, i7-4790K will be working at 4 GHz stock/4.4 GHz turboboost! Its not bad. TDP is still about 90 W, only few wats over 4770K. If multicore edhanced turbo will be working with this chips, means the CPU will working at 4.4 GHz in all situation!

I couldn't agree more. I'm very happy with my recent purchase of an i5-4670k for $189 @ Microcenter. While I'll admit, i wasn't expecting to have to de-lid the thing and shave down the underside so the CPU core came in contact with the heat spreader, all because the damn thing was running 90'c loaded. Now it never breaks 63'c @ 4.4ghz with a thermalright venomous X.

I will say, I enjoy the hell out of my 4930k rig and ill never not have intel halo platform, but for daily use and gaming my maximus vi impact and 4770k feels snappier and speedier. Kinda like a huge torquey v8 that is overall faster vs a quick revving high rpm inline 6

Because it is snappier. The 4770k is faster clock for clock than the 4930k, it's a newer/better CPU arch. Furthermore the quad channel memory of the socket 2011 system isn't going to add any tangible benefits to gaming, but the extra latency will still be there.

The only advantage to the halo system for gaming is the gobs of PCI-E lanes. If you're not making use of that all you have is more slightly slower CPU cores that aren't all used in game, and extra memory channels your game isn't using with a bit more latency.

There may be some measurable latency differences in how many cycles things take between uarches and memory, but theres NO way they are going to noticeably affect user feel, as those "differences" end up being ridiculously tiny fractions of a second. The OS optimizations and storage type/quality are where you get different response feel.

This seems like Intel's attempt to rebadge the 4770k or 4790k ALA, AMD's FX 9590.

Basically kill the k series at 300 and sell it for 400 to 500 dollars. I had a feeling Intel would do this.

Seriously? That's just embarrassing for a supposedly "(re)designed for overclockers" part.
