    New Details About Intel Skylake

    http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-20...-chip-desktop/

The platform roadmap pits Skylake desktop parts in 2015 which means that Broadwell would be short lived and we probably won?t see a Refreshed platform like Haswell for Broadwell and instead move directly towards the Intel Skylake processors which will feature new architectural enhancements compared to Haswell and Broadwell.

This is a questionable data but maybe Skylake will be worth upgrading, I mean should it bring the big perf. boost everyone talks about?!

For my part I don't think we will that huge steps on the cpu side, we should see some improvements, thanks to the quite large cache increase, but don't expect anything beyond 10% in clock vs clock comparison.

Now the biggest "winner" probably will be the new IGP, with DDR4, larger caches and even more execution resources then the still to be released e3 broadwell one.

I hear Skylake is getting a big AVX upgrade, but that only means old software gets a minor boost while new software gets a big boost, I don't know if they'll get the gains they had with Sandybridge on all software.

So in 2015, intel will still offer max of 4 cores to the general user ? Guess the sales are gonna be slow...

Only a few (specialized) apps are likely to take advantage of this. AVX is a pain to use, especially the new versions with wider vectors.

Would be nice to finally see some frequency increases. They keep getting lower...

So maybe Intel will no longer release real CPU upgrades for the same chipset. And then after a while people will be OK with BGA CPU's soldered to the motherboard since no upgrade is possible anyway Then again, it seems they also don't provide real upgrades in performance even with a new chipset.

Seriously... I'm just itching for a reason to upgrade my systems... but they haven't given me one. I want MOAR COARZ! Drop the speed to 3 GHz stock, heck even 2.5 for all I care (as long as you give me a multiplier that I can ramp it up to thermal limits) and give me a crap ton of cores! (8+ please)

24 hour prime stable? Please, I'm 24/7/365 WCG stable!

Why people care about how much cores the CPU have ?

More cores will help only in multi-threaded tasks. Faster cores will help in both single and multi-threaded tasks. If skylake get a big improvement per core like 30% increase then that would be better than throwing more cores

30% IPC increase over Haswell? Sorry but I think there is no chance for that. I doubt even in AVX2 optimized workloads you will see that much on average. General purpose apps will most likely see ~10%, just like Hornet331 predicted.

Because my average workload uses more cores than I can possible throw at the problem. Even something as outrageous as a 30% performance increase per core pales in comparison to twice as many cores... even 50% more cores would benefit my workload more. (It's not all crunching, but crunching is the reason my computers never turn off and never go idle..)

You want double the cores huh? Doesn't matter how many there are - you still want twice as many.

this is a silly question, yes, always yes, my 12 thread could use 2x as many cores, and if it had 24 threads it could still use 2x as many cores.

My 12 core/24 thread cruncher is getting long in tooth. Wish I could afford the newer xeons. Out of my price range for now.
