I just wish the reviewers would throw in a few older CPU's to compare against, old Athlon 64's/x2's, E4400's/E6400's etc - plenty of people using machines based on those just fine.

The same question I asked myself.
I have some old AM3 Cpus here...but they use a lot of power and maybe this performs better

What I saw, this performance is as some Athlon x2 4800+ or so. Not bad. Specially with more better encoding of video, because there is modern iGPU chip and of course less power . I can recomend AM1 socket as nice basic PC or HTPC

I see quite a few basic business PC's based around new Athlons and Semprons!
I might build one miniPC for myself to take as diagnostic/recovery station when visiting my customers With a bit of tinkering I could even run it from external battery pack!

Just perfect for a basic mini itx HTPC, or whatever use you can come up with. What's quite interesting is an asrock mobo that can be powered from a 19v notebook charger/PSU. That's just amazing, you can ditch the PSU and, for example, mod something into where the ATX psu would've been. More hard drives? There's another mobo that's got 4 SATA ports, that's a little better... Can't wait to build one of these!

Anyone else find the benchmark results interesting when compared to the bulldozer arch? In a few cases you have 25w worth of jaguar cores offering 50% the performance of 95w A10s. Sometimes I think a higher clocked 8 core jaguar chip would have been a better option for AMD mid range, jaguar cores are very small in terms of die space as well aren't they?

There would almost certainly be a non-compete clause signed with both Microsoft and Sony. I wouldn't expect 8-core Jaguar parts or Jaguar based SOCs with huge GPUs (700-1200 shaders like the consoles) for at least a year (since the ps4/xbone release).

At this end of the spectrum I think it would be better to have stayed embedded like the A6-5200.
By the way, picoPSU are very nice for sub 150w applications...you can run an A10-7850K from a picoPSU and power brick.

The upside of socketed kabini, as has been told in many reviews, is the ability to upgrade. Considering AMD's history on that, apart from FM1 I think this little socket will go on for a few generations. Beema is supposed to be released soon, that should be a great upgrade to kabini and would also enable HSA for this platform... which in the future, if such software takes off, would make an interesting little chip even more so.

In my case, a 35-40 U$S mobo and some more for the 5350 is the perfect foundation for an htpc that would put that LCD TV to good use, and would easily double as an internet PC for the parents, or guests, occupying little to no space. Hell, you can even hide it! A reviewer noticed that for such tasks it is indistinguishable from higher powered platforms... If no gaming is intended, anything more powerful is overkill. It's quite appealing, especially if you live in a country that is economically backwards and sinking like the titanic, but worse. I'm also thinking of many old office PCs (old athlon XPs, P4s) that could be replaced with this... I'll certainly be making some recommendations in the future.

I can only applaud AMD for putting kabini in a socket and undercutting intel's atom crap in both price and performance. I think AMD should focus on their cat cores since they've proven themselves lately... Intel did something similar with the Pentium M after all.

If this had ECC support, this would make a very nice VM set up w/ ZFS for storage & a 1x video card for playback. I can only dream.


For non-power users, this is just awesome. Normally, I'm not excited about "slow" cpus, but this is a nice segment to get into. Rigs are cheap, especially if we can OC them.

if the performance is at the same level of Athlon X2 4800+ then this is not weak at all consider the power consumption. Maybe it is time for me to change my living room PC running on Athlon II X2 240 to this....
