    Ermagherd!

Mem defroster? A heat circuit around the memory chips? I do hope so, community has needed that for YEARS!

Hopefully the 290x can break the 1600mhz barrier. Heck the 1500mhz barrier seems like challenge for most cards.

The 7970 matrix has a tendency to die? I picked one up last week for a good deal and this is troubling news. I thought the matrix would be better built than the rest along the lines of MSI lightning etc.

Under normal abuse (air/water) I haven't heard of any issues.

That's good to know, thanks. I flashed the bios and accidentally forgot to back up the original bios so I guess I lost warranty as well.

    Sorry for the OT

I've killed two at stock settings, havent RMA'd the second one yet..

Couple other users have run into the same issue on this forum, one reviewer had the issue as well but I cant find his post here on XS about it anymore..

7970's stock BIOS? Color me surprised, everyone I've seen was on the LN2 BIOS that seemed to lock the vGPU and mess with other voltages incorrectly.

I absolutely cannot believe ASUS went with Elpida for the 290X Matrix. Considering how much better the Hynix overclocks especially on the Hawaii memory controller, it is quite unbelievable that they used Elpida on their flagship 290X. 780Ti Matrix seems to be using Hynix, I wonder why they decided to skimp on the 290X memory. Even the cooler seems to not be all that great. Im afraid the Lightning would easily be a superior option.
