    John Peddie Research -GPU market up -Intel and Nvidia graphics winner in Q4, AMD down

    Man... AMD got crushed. What a dose of reality to everyone claiming that nVidia was finished because of Mantle.

    Quick highlights:

    ? AMD?s overall unit shipments decreased 10.4%, quarter-to-quarter, Intel?s total shipments increased 5.1% from last quarter, and Nvidia?s increased 3.4%.

    ? The attach rate of GPUs to PCs for the quarter was 137% and 34% of PCs had discrete GPUs that means 66% of the PCs are using embedded graphics.

    ? The overall PC market increased 1.8% quarter-to-quarter, but declined 8.5% year-to-year.

    These researches are ambiguous.

    Example. If you have a PC with a Intel CPU + Intel iGPU and a AMD dGPU, Steam Hardware Survey sees only the Intel iGPU. It's a tweak of Intel drivers.

    What about this, from that same site? See year by year. Hmm, 1.8% increase in discrete shipments seems to be an awfully small increase when the R9 290x has been out of stock many many times. Has AMD been having a supply problem since the start of the 7xxx series?

    Working at a IT distributor that offers full selection of computer components, we represent many brands for our country (being one of 3 official representatives of AMD for my country) I can tell you most definitely yes, and not only with GPUs, CPUs too. The whole channel is a mess, from marketing to supplies, and this has been going on since the begining of 2013.

    Demand is there but supply is very bad. I had to wait for 3 weeks to get a 280x so decrease in amd is not that unexpected.

    AMD's mobile offerings have been abysmal compared to Intel integrated platforms or Intel platforms with Optimus. AMD still has nothing that competes with mid to high-range Intel mobile CPUs. Welcome to 2007.

    they should really not count on die graphics. everything that ships out with an intel chip that is not a work station or server has intel graphics now.

    Some thoughts:
    - according to JPR desktop PCs Market declined of 6.1%, but AIB device shipments grew of 3%. Why?;
    - because this research includes Tablet devices, non only PCs, and AMD has not SoC for this market;
    - so? This research is pure bull, imho.
