Finally I take some time for testing lovely Visheras chip. This is first part, because I have still many other work to do.

First one is 1327PGS

Cooling AIO AMD Cooler liquid - so a bit better than Noctua NHD14

FX-9590 is highend CPU with high TDP and of course high stress for motherboard VRM (CPU want more current for right working :-) ). The clocks are 4700 MHz and up to 5000 MHz for light stress. I used again older Asus Crosshair V Formula. Formula-Z is a bit better. At C5F is not official support, but CPU working OK. Only the one issue is CPU ratio * is set default at 23.5, not auto. So your CPU is not underclocking here. Thats mean a bit higher idle power consumption (+20-30W I mean)

So, what about power consumption at stock settings?

As I mention, the CPU ration in idle is still at 23.5 (4700 MHz), the power consumption of PC is:

So, we can try this CPU undervolting? Yes

I tried few steps in undervolting. First one in stability test for 30 minutes. 1.44 V in idle, 1.416V in load. LLC for CPU and CPUNB set as HIGH. Ussually in practice use will be power consumption around 30 W lower than in stability stress test...

Second step is a bit better, nice settings with 1.428 V and 1.404V in load.

Third step of undervolting in stress test, next settings is and now "only" 301W in load with 1.38 V in load! Idle jumping between 1.404-1.416

PS: Im still testing next steps in udnervolting. In next week we will see some results and OC resutls as popular benchmarks and some OC stability tests of first 9590. Later second CPU...

Next part of undervolting
First under 300W PC in stress test, 1.392 V in idle and 1.368V in load

This part is 1.38 V in idle and 1.356V in load!

Final max stable undervolting settings for FX-9590 stock clocks 1.368V in idle and 1.344V in load.

There was error after 20 minutes :-/, but still not bad result

So, first part of FX-9590 is done. Undervolting at stock clocks. Its awesome to know, there is difference around 70 W in power consumption for load!!!

SO, first OC stable result is 4990 MHz at CPU with 1.475 V in load. Hmmm, not bad. But I have still some limit to highest temperatures. Il be continue in OC...

What is power consumption in stress test?

Its not huge from stock settings with autovoltage. Only around +30 W more. I know, FX after OC is real machine not only in performance, but in power consumption. But believe me, this is not most crazy CPU after OC (Bulldozer, Gulftown and SB-E are more hungry after OC)

Thanks for the power consumption and undervolting tests! So CnQ does not work because the bios does not allow "Auto" for clocks and voltages? Is there an C6 mode selectable and working? On my AbuDhaib Opetron system it is selectable but does not work, systems freeze during boot. Therefore it never operates at the highes turbo mode (3.3GHz) and with CPB enabled it run's at 3.1GHz most of the time.

So, for repetition from first post in this thread is this result:

AMD FX-9590 with AUTO settings in stress test consumed 353 W

After undervolting is in the same stress test "only" 283 W

So I safe 70W of consumption!

Nice work Flank3r, this really makes you wonder why they set the volts so high initially. I guess to to cover their a**es, don't want returns of unstable CPUs I guess.

yes, they have some limit for leakage parts and reserve for regions in Africa/Asia (hot and wet).

Ty. Ive done 5250 MHz Cinebench, around 5300+ will be very hard. Now Im at 1.54V and temps are near the limit

. Seems as good 9590, but not very good. Stable now at 5050 MHz 1.488V

It was -20?c out, well around there and my loop was -15?. I spent about 90 minutes trying to get that validation. 3 times I had it crash on the save. I also managed HWBot prime at almost 5.9 http://hwbot.org/submission/2509600_

this year is very hot here. I have no change try some cold air (now we have here +12C, all winter time were around 0 to +5C).

I have now Cinebench with this retail around 52xx MHz with 1.535V, chip is hot. Il try few next steps, hope for 5300

That must be an odd winter for you Flank3r, typically I thought it got pretty cold in your neck of the woods. For Cinebench I have had much better luck with my 8350 vs the 9370. With the 8350 got 9.68 @ 5.6 and 9370 9.39 @ 5.45. I can't seem to keep it stable enough to run at a higher frequency, I think maybe it's the cache over heats and gets unstable. ??

This 9590 seems good in CPUNB, I have no problem to get 245x MHz stable with very decent voltage. Im looking forward, if can run 2700 MHz R11,5 with 1.35V

. Now Im testing only few benchmarks and it will be done. After I must switch to Haswell for some review...

I think maybe I was running it too fast was my problem. It was over 2900 for that sub. The 9370 I have will run 3100 but it take 1.4+ volts. It hit 28-2900 at 1.35-1.37v. Maybe next year when the weather gets cold I will try it again but we are starting to warm up here very soon. I managed a Cinebench 11.5 and 15 at 5.0 on my 4770k a week or so ago. I sold the Killer and bought a ROG Hero. I couldn't stand that Asrock board TBH.
