[News] Sapphire Announces the Radeon RX 480 NITRO+

    https://www.techpowerup.com/224408/s...n-rx-480-nitro

Sapphire announced its premium Radeon RX 480 graphics card, the NITRO+. Featuring a completely custom design, the card features the company's latest Dual-X cooling solution that combines a dense aluminium fin-stack heatsink, with a pair of easily detachable 95 mm fans, and an air-channel that directs hot air towards the top; and a custom-design PCB with a strong VRM, which draws power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector.

The Radeon RX 480 NITRO+ comes in two variants, 4 GB and 8 GB. The 4 GB variant comes with clock speeds of 1208 MHz core, 1306 MHz boost, and 7 Gbps memory; while the 8 GB variant ships with 1208 MHz core, 1342 MHz boost, and 8 Gbps memory. Display outputs include two each of DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0b, and a dual-link DVI connector. The unique NITRO Glow feature lets you make the LED-lit Sapphire logo useful, by cycling it between its default blue color, to a random RGB color, gradients based on PCB temperature and fan-speeds, a Sapphire TriXX-set color, or stay off.

Looks like the additional power did enable them to get more clocks (just over 1400 MHz). Kinda gross that it consumed 100 more watts than a reference 1060 though.

Something seems off in that review to me, only like a 300 point increase in 3dmark is very low. Theres still not a clear picture on the 480 though only more reviews of custom cards will paint that picture so for now its back to the waiting game.

if you unlock the pwm controller you get about 1460 on conventional cooling. the bios has a cap on over current that wont let you get over about 1370 even with a volt mod.

That makes sense, any info on power consumption after this tweak ? Im betting it skyrockets .
Theres some bad info in this review, 4GB cards have slower clocked memory 1750mhz, and review claims they could only OC it by 100Mhz, i was hoping for same chips and a possibility of "regaining" the lost performance by OC.
TBH i dont like both RX480 and 1060.Anyone that can wait should until they fix rx 480/release new cards and or lower the prices.

First of all, props to these guys, they did load of professional work.
    Bottom line, watercooling + hardware mods= 1480mhz (not really 24h/7 stable) .
As for power draw, if im understanding the video correctly , card drew close to 320W, there is 159.5W gpuz screenshot(on another test they had 143W reading) ,however they did modify hardware to read half of the actual so overprotection would not kick in.Thats why i hate videos, if it was an article there would be clear information :P .However i doubt that card under VERY heavy overclock+overvolt would drew less power than the stock ...
Theres no way these chips are gonna clock 1500mhz on any air.

they explain in the video that they changed the IC count for the power consumption so it did not read half of them, that way the OCP did not kick in. so if theirs said 140W it was really 280W. also load line was not working properly, and they had no actual voltage value from the card (they got it from the IC its self) so the power readings are higher than they should be since i think they were running 1.45VID but the actual load was like 1.36V, but that is not a huge difference in the scope of it.

i would have liked text and pics, but those dont pay the bills.

First review ,its in polish, but bars and clocks are pretty much sel explanatory.
    http://www.purepc.pl/karty_graficzne...aris?page=0,16

In short, OC was 1350/7500 ,so a bit better than reference for gpu just like in asus strix, and bad for memory, thats a 4GB version which has memory clocked 7000mhz on def.
1350~ ,that is the clock of a AIB 480 without hardcore hardware mods. Not even a 100mhz overclock.

I've now watched tons of videos and reviews of RX480 (also nitro version) . But still can't decide .

Suppose they are the same price , which would you buy :
-Sapphire RX 480 8GB with standard AMD cooler
-Sapphire RX 480 4GB Nitro edition

Also suppose LED lightning does not interest the buyer ..

Honestly, I'd get a reference 4GB card. You literally cannot beat the value that card offers (at least today, RX 470 might take that crown based off the official specs).

pcper had the sapphire guy on the other day, he said taht they made sure that the boost clock will not go down more than one step with the nitro+
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXbhbtWxvC8

that would be a huge improvement IMO since the reference card has lots of down clocking all the time.

that said i dont think $270 is a viable price for that since the 1070 uses less power and is on newegg for $395 right now for an asus or GB one if you pay with paypal. if you were thinking cheaper side the 470 looks way better the $200ish price range, or if power consumption does not matter the fury has been popping up for around $300 and that is really tempting.

there are thees two for $430 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-871-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-111-_-Product

they are back to MSRP as stock came back, and they have that pay pal promo that works on them. that asus one with the fan headers is really tempting, but im waiting for the high end chips to come out.

Agreed , but that card (4GB reference rx 480) is completely unavailable anywhere in Europe . The ones that were lucky enough to get this card and were able to unlock to 8GB had a super deal

You're not the only one. It takes too long to slog through videos! Why do all these useless narcissists want to get in front of the camera and make us listen to their not-Hollywood-quality voices? I want information quickly. No time for this Web 2.0 garbage.

on youtube if you have about 100k views on 3-4 15min video you will make around $1500 a month + your you tube red share. if you had 3-4 articles with some non intrusive ads and the same readership from an ad companies hosting you might make $50
