    ASUS unveils 28-inch, $799 4K display targeting price-sensitive pros

ASUS' 31.5-inch 4K monitor may be the ideal display for many content creators, but a typical asking price over $3,000 rules it out for all but the most affluent. Much to our relief, the company is bringing the cost of its technology closer to Earth with a new 28-inch display, the PB287Q. It touts the extra-sharp 3,840 x 2,160 resolution of its bigger sibling, just in a smaller and cheaper form factor. You aren't giving up much in the way of features, either, as the 28-inch panel boasts a quick 1ms response time, DisplayPort, MHL-capable HDMI and a rotatable design. The real highlight, of course, is the discount -- the PB287Q will ship in the second quarter for $799, which both puts it on par with Lenovo's affordable 4K display and makes it easier to justify for penny-pinching workstation buyers.
    Source

I like the price and displayport supporting 60Hz, but I like to upgrade to larger display like the 50 inch Vizio i posted in the other tread. Too bad the Vizio doesn't have displayport and no Graphic Card supports HDMI 2.0 at this time, hope that will change soon.

    EDIT
It's confirmed, 28 inches of 4K resolution, 1ms response time and native 60Hz operation
With this in mind ASUS has been working on designing and developing a monitor that would offer the image quality, response time and size being communicated by PC enthusiasts and PC gamers. Here at CES 2014 the new PB287Q is being unveiled offering up 28 inches of 4K resolution, 1ms response time and native 60Hz operation. Based on a newly developed panel that is lower in cost but not in quality it allows the new PB287Q to be aggressively priced with a projected $799 MSRP. After spending some hands on time with the monitor I have come away thoroughly impressed. Rich detail and good color saturation, that is a check. Good grey-scale and black reproduction, that is a check. Sharpness and a bright even picture, that is also a check. To top it all it features a special blue light filter that helps to reduce flicker and reduce eyestrain.

Look ok for me, but as it look exactly like the 278B they have release (( i own it ).. i hope they have now a bit more revisisited the calibration and setting of it .. ( its a good monitor, an excellent Samsung Panel ( this 4K panel is one made by Samsung, not LG )... but if they can callibrate it please .. )

i applaud the price, but the resolution is not all.

That's a much better price than its bigger brother. That retails down here for $4,899. Which is absurd.

    28".. nope thank you.

I am sitting away 70-80cm away from my monitor (aka normal working distance), everything above 24" is to large for that distance.

I wonder when there again will be good monitors with 24" and higher resolutions then 1920x1200... its a joke that they make 4k phone screens with 560+ ppi and cant make a 24" screen with more then 110 ppi.

I am using two 28" 1920x1200 screens now, I cant go back as 24" screens seem tiny.

Does this support 60Hz at 4K or does it drop to 1920x1080 for 60Hz?

Display port may enable 60hz but the panel must be able to refresh that fast.

Is this panel capable of 60hz if used on display port?

1ms response time = TN Panel

if it was IPS I would get it asap even if it is 2" smaller than my 30" but won't have the crapy viewing angle and less color

The PQ321Q is able to do 60Hz, but at this price point I am not sure what they cut feature wise.

    Gaming at 30Hz sucks even at 4K. I would love a 4K 120Hz display.

Honestly as a gamer I don't see a point to this at all, if you have the hardware to push demanding games at this res you're not going to be going with the cheapest 4k monitors on the market. The professional users meanwhile won't go near this thing because it's TN. Whole thing smells like trying to cash in on non-savvy types.

well it looks like it may have dropped the price of the 31.5 4k from 3.5k to 3k so that not a bad thing

The 120hz 1440p Asus announced looks great as well. I think we are a few years away from a large 120Hz 4k panel.

I have 37 inch monitor and will never go to anything smaller. Over the years I did spend some good money on PC upgrade. The only time I did say WOW when I first connected this monitor and I'm still very happy with it. My office desk is 60"w x 30"d perfect for 50" monitor.

Too bad at 1080p I can't go to anything bigger than present monitor. That's why I want 50 inch 4K UHD monitor. What I want is Eyefinity/surround like experience in gaming without the bezels, with additional benefits like much more real estate for work place multitasking. Or how about watching 6 girls chat rooms at the same time. LOL

Sometime I wonder where people are sitting when gaming or working on PC , when they worry about the viewing angles plus the monitor does not have any crappy colors if you read the review.

120 Hz 4K UHD monitor is kind off useless with today high performance Graphics Cards when you can hardly get avg 60 FPS with Crossfire or SLI at 4K. Plus the latest HDMI 2.0 does not have the bandwidth to support it.

Displayport 1.3 to be approved Q2 this year should be able to handle it but we wont see any 4K UHD monitor with such support till early 2015 (my speculation).

Exactly, that resolution at 120hz will look absolutely amazing and take all the muscle of a crossfire or sli setup. Additionally, a 28" monitor at that resolution would seem the most ideal...beautiful! Ever since I got my current 120hz monitor I no longer get blood-shot eyes from straining to see...I mean my eyes were literally red after a few hours.

I REALLY hope that Eizo is going to make another screen to acompany the FG2421 that is 27" and 1440p, for I have read about it's refresh rate and seen it's black level and I am in awe!

Yeah, agreed. Not too interested in non-4K screens at this point, though. And most 4K screens are IGZO, so not sure they can pull that with their current tech...
But having 5000:1 contrast ratio would be awesome as hell.
