Single Stage Build 01/01/14

Another simple single stage but still popular. My goal is set at -30C to -35C with 300W load. -35C target evaporator temp. The colder the better.

Compressor is the dependable and truly tested Danfoss 18CC Made in Germany



Basic parts - all new! Condenser is sized for 3/4hp compressor with 36 rows of tubing.



Chilly1 evap has been prepped for added surface area which should cause more turbulence.



Chilly1 brazed up and cleaned



Time to get started



Wiring done - ON/OFF switch installed



Copper is all run - working on evap and cap tube.



Leak testing @ 250psi. I'm gonna let this sit for a couple of days. Redo suck.

Update time -

I did some extra securing on the tubing on this one.



Added some water cooling tube for cushion







Here's a couple of sub cooling tricks from Chilly1 You can also soft solder the cap tube to accumalator but this works good also. Tapeing the cap tube to suction is added sub cooling. Does well in the tropics.





I did a tripple evac and now we're sitting into a long 12 hr evac for good measures.



Maybe some gas tonight.

Adam when you finish school and your a successful Dr. you can build these simple SS and Autocascades until your hearts content. You'll have plenty of cash and a huge shop..

My workshop is mid-rebuild right now though, it managed to get destroyed a few months back.

Load testing is going fine. Nothing accurate because it is cold in my garage. Ambient temp in my garage close to 70F so I can't get a true charge on the system. As it warms up this week I will tune it up.



As I said earlier I am looking for something in the -35C area at 300W load. I'm thinking that will be doable with this setup.

As I said ambient room temp (65F-70F) is lower than normal in these pictures. In an 75F - 80F room you should expect evaporator temps somewhere around -35C @ 300w load. CPU temps will be warmer than that.
