NVIDIA Maxwell details to be revealed at CES 2014?

According to SemiAccurate?s sources NVIDIA might reveal some details of the upcoming Maxwell architecture during CES in Las Vegas. Whether this is going to be a public announcement or a special meeting behind closed doors, is yet to be confirmed.

As always take everything with a grain of salt.

Maxwell on 28nm process?
I?ve been hearing about Maxwell for few months. The rumor was that NVIDIA plans two major GPUs, the GM107 processor which would still be made in 28nm process and a new flagship (GM204) based on 20nm architecture. There were rumors about the GM104, but apparently it was canceled.

Charlie claims that NVIDIA will stick to 28nm process with the new architecture. He is basically saying there won?t be any 20nm GPUs from NVIDIA in 2014. I find this highly unlikely, it would deny all previous rumors and simply cause a huge disappointment.

One thing is certain though, there are no 20nm GPUs in first and second quarter of 2014. First Maxwell samples were made few months ago, they are almost ready for mass production and they are all in 28nm fabrication process.

I could be wrong but I have a feeling that GM100 (2014) are 28nm, while GM200 (late 2014/2015) are 20nm, we will verify this in the upcoming months.

NVIDIA Maxwell GM107 and GM204 release dates
According to S|A, the GM107 would be revealed in February. This is a mid-range GPU for cards like GTX 860, maybe even GTX 870. The Big Maxwell, which is codenamed GM204 would arrive later, possibly in fourth quarter. Of course this would be a GTX 780 (Ti) replacement.

What is new in Maxwell?
The Maxwell architecture will be a derivative of Kepler. The shaders will look similar to Kepler?s. The new feature is coherent memory, and here we should mention Project Denver, which apparently is not yet ready to be implemented into Maxwell. Instead of using a separate CPU NVIDIA will use a controller to take some steam off the GPU. How is this going to affect the performance? Let?s wait and see.

GeForce GTX 790?
Speaking of the new cards, we might soon welcome a new GeForce 700 graphics card. The GeForce GTX 790 is supposedly being prepared for February, so yes, this is going to be an interesting month. I heard it could feature 10GB memory (through 2x 320b interface) and 2x 2496 CUDAs. I could not verify this information, thus I decided not to make a separate post, but if these specs are even slightly true then I think you should know them.

Almost forgot, for those wondering where are 6GB 780 Tis, I think this has something to do with TITAN successor..

This "GTX 790" sounds very interesting if its true, I would like to finally see a dual GPU with higher VRAM, 5GB per GPU is perfect, as I plan to go 4K soon and most important I need a GPU that has HDMI 2.0 so I can run it at 60hz, not all 4K TV's have a DisplayPort, if they did I couldn't care less about HDMI 2.0.

I wonder if AMD will ever move onto an analogue of their CPU modules with their GPUs, and come up with a dual GPU design that shares the memory. As I understand it in SLI/xfire a lot of the same stuff is mirrored on the memory of each card to prevent tearing; well imagine if you had 10 gb of shared memory that you could actually use all of it. I imagine that would require a few major changes to the pcb and GPU dies to allow direct communication between them (which if I recall, the 4870x2 was supposed to have some sort of pipeline that was never utilized).

I have no idea if this is feasible or even worth the R&D costs. However, I think 10gb of shared memory would be really useful for a multi 4k monitor system (and I'm guessing if you can afford a gtx 790, you can afford the monitors).

I wonder will it be any better crunching crypto coins? Would be nice to see efficient miner card and have some competition on that field too. It's getting annoying that there are no available amd cards around because miners. But then again AMD is making ton of money because of miners.

Honestly, I find this mining fever disgusting. Capitalism and greed at its finest. If any company overpriced their products out of greed (I suppose), people whine and complain. But to make money yourself out of thin air while wasting energy, that apparently is okay. At least those companies employ people, pay wages and taxes and make products we all enjoy. Mining does nothing productive at all.

You just described half of the service industry. There are a lot of more frivolous wastes of electricity. Much like those wastes this can have a positive impact on the economy.

The only thing I find disgusting about mining is that i didn't start about year ago when the Bitcoin value was about $15
The reason I didn't start is because I did listen to people like you.

Just kidding I was about the same negative about the mining and still am (Edit: by negative i mean always wondering how long this will last), but since I have the cards why not get them little more busy when not playing games.

EDIT 2: the Bitcoin and other virtual currencies also employ many people and spending the coins employ even more people, so there is no need to be negative about that.

According to WCCF only GTX 750 will not require external PSU. Off course all about GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti is unconfirmed rumor mainly based on Chinese PCOnline site.

It might be good news for Nvidia but for me nothing exciting there (I mean nothing to upgrade). I'm waiting for the Maxwell GTX 880 Ti also hoping at the same time AMD Pirate Islands series going to be ready to compete.

As 'kuroikenshi' already stated about Maxwell I believe the same applies to the AMD next generation Graphic cards, not sooner than Q4 2014

Looks like my plan will work out as a GPUGrid cruncher, a 750 and 650 will get me a boatload more production for $200 than my old GTX 460 and for about the same power consumption

IMHO the best part is the smaller form factor and lack of PCI-E connectors. Let's face it, laptops outsell desktops, and the vast majority of desktops that do sell are tiny things with pathetic PSUs. This does look nice for those.

This has got to be the most boring new launch ever for a new architecture ever. Its been months since we got these tidbits and the thread is only 4 pages long. Any other launch it would have been 60 pages by now.

This seems like a good chip possibly for laptops but with the leaked performance, it just seems like A Nvidia Bionaire chip. Doesn't seem like an interesting chip for enthusiasts.
