I think the worse thing is the "but, I am impartial" smug on every post. Would be much easier if he just came out and admitted he is an Nvidia fan. That way he could cut his word count on every post by 90% and make the forum more pleasant. It seems a lot of Nvidia lovers adore posting rants about AMD on its threads, I don't really get why.
@Tajoh: No offense intended, I'm sure you're a nice person, but every AMD thread is severely polluted by your posts. Pls tone it down and focus on Nvidia threads if you dislike AMD products.

for the prices profit maximization is first topic of micro economy. so believe me 290, 290x, 780, 780ti and others have the exact price that makes the maximum profit for their company.
When i'm being paid i always do my job through.
So the GTX 780 at $650 creates the same profit as the same GTX 780 at $500 with game bundle included?
Why didn't Nvidia think about it right away? I think the profits are maximized when there is no competition.
Anyway nothing to do with the OP.
EDIT
Off course sometime high volume sales can make up the difference for the lower price, but I don't think at this point it applies to GTX 780

No i am not saying it is the same profit. Profit is changed because with the new cards from AMD demand is changed and with this new demand profit maximazing new price is this. Of course this not a competitive market we can say duopol or oligopol so they may not use profit maximizing price to hurt others profit but in this situation it doesnt make sense with 780.
EDIT ABOUT YOUR EDIT It is a concept of price elasticity but they still use profit maximization. Actually these are very very simple topics if you have a little math background on derivatives you can learn these on a very short time with reading it from internet and you will be very suprised how easy but efficient micro economy is.

well the sapphire 290x was down to 499 for a few days this week so if the all drop by then the Lightning should be around 599 if it is air cooled, I have not seen anything about the Lightning being water cooled
but it would be nice
have only seen the asus's new 780 DCII is air & water or both and most likely asus will do the same for a 290x

I think max they could charge and sell at is $700. The problem with everything in this price bracket including gtx 780 ti is the performance and price of 2x r290 in CF. With CF issues seemingly sorted out and likely non-ref r290 being released by the time the lightning is released, the performance 2xr290 provides kills anything 700 and up.
The gtx780 ti price was fine relatively at $700 with the the 290x at $550 from a marketing perspective due to branding advantage. However with the r290 launched at 400, 290x and particularly gtx 780ti were overpriced. The gtx 780 ti seems only practical for benchers which is a very niche audience. With the r290 launched at 400, the r290x price needs to be 479 to 499, as 5% difference in performance is a tough sell for $150 dollars. And I think the gtx 780 ti needs to drop even more to $599 to $629. Nvidia's branding is strong, but 2xr290 performance at $800 is really a killer for 700 dollar single GPU cards.
If this card is 750 with a waterblock, its going to be a tough sell if someone can buy 2 nonstock cooling r290 for 800 to 850 dollars. I think Nvidia knows this and pendantone was hinting at a price drop on gtx 780 ti's.
With r290x, particularly a lightning version, I would only feel comfortable overclocking this with a waterblock. The very very best waterclocks I have seen with r290x have been around 1300-1330 for benching 1250ish for game clocks with a lot of added volts that would kill the card under air. If these lightning versions have the power circuitry to get these lightning cards in the 1300mhz range when overclocked, I feel the power draw would be too much for air and the waterblocked versions of these cards would be the only one to get.
If the price is 750, I think alot of people would have a hard time justifying it over 2xr290s. If it was $650, it still wouldn't be an easy sale, but it would be enough to get people who prefer Nvidia to switch and it would put a pounding on gtx 780 ti sales even more.

750GB Seagate.
So... What happens when you have to plug basically another PSU in cables alone into your SINGLE graphics card?
Nvidia and AMD are going to have to come out with their own line of wall sockets and high amp circuit breakers.

It's a contract.
Farmers have been using derivatives for centuries. e.g I want to sell my potatoes at harvest moon for 20 schillings. A speculator would pick that up if they thought 20 schillings would be a fair price or low price when sale time came around. The farmer would use this contract to ensure he didn't end up losing dosh if the potato market tanked between now and harvest moon. Derivatives just applies that to anything that is an asset.
Another example is a "put" or "call" order on a stock is a derivative.
For it to be price fixing it requires that the farmer be conspiring with most or all other potato farmers to sell at a fixed rate, there is no contract involved because it is illegal.

So how long do you think this will be guys? Mid Jan?
My 680 Lightning was a winner, 780 Lightning couldn't keep up with 780 Classy, so i hope MSI can win the next round and 290xL will be a winner too.
