    Smile Lists for Santa

    So, there are not many sleeps until Santa comes to visit but I have a question for you all:

    In view of the fact that you have all been good little crunchers and have tended your machines all year, what would you put on your list for Santa to bring?

    Would it be, for example, one Dave style Beast or a number of smaller rigs. Maybe certain parts? or maybe new wheels because you spent all your funds on crunching.

    Maybe your wish relates to something very different.

    If I'm going to be practical-New tires and brakes so I can safely get the rust bucket rolling again.

    I'f I"m going to be semi-impractical- An i7-2600K for my Dell and a dual socket mobo for the MacPro+heatsinks and two X5570's.

    If I"m really not not going to be practical-Supermicro X8DA3 board+2xL5640's+Seasonic 1200W Plat PSU+Heatsinks+32Gb DDR3 1333 ECC FB RAM+two 256Gb Samsung 840Pro's in RAID+a big honkin case with lots of fans and a 1500-2200VA UPS.

    I'm adding a new motherboard to my list. I haven't updated the drivers or BIOS since about day one. Looking now I see the latest is right at a year since last BIOS release. Also the W8 drivers are mostly BETA...my IT senses are tingling...Asus P8P67 EVO with a 2600k. I have major stability issues, then again it is OC'ed

    Also adding to the list a new video card or at least for the manufacturer to call me out of the blue and offer to replace this one. I don't have time to reach out to them and its probably our of warranty already. I have to pull the DVI connection out on side in order for it not to turn all my black color red. So my boot screen is red and white versus black and white which is fine for a minute then it gets old. I know the cable and monitor are good as I plug into another system all the way [balls deep?] and it works just fine.

    Not really for xmas, as we don't do presents for xmas.
    And I did get a new 4770k system last month and a nice new mountainbike 2 months ago.

    But I'm still looking at building me a multi cpu system. Looking at power consumption now and like what I see. It could replace one or two of my older crunchers without doing less work and still saving energy.

    Got an itch for a 4P board. Start with one socket and build as time goes. AMD 16 core (never built a AMD rig before) is the cheapest route. Not sure yet.

    yeah this is why I want solar panels. Really want to go 4x16 AMD cores but realistically a dual socket board is probably the most I can do and 1x16 is probably what I will do. I may sell off some of what I have and go 2x16. I am already pushing hard on the electric bill and have to shut down too many during the summer.

    Those are the HEDT(High End DeskTop) versions for SP systems. I'm sure they only have one QPI enabled per CPU like current HEDT IVB CPUs.

    8C/16T Does sound rather awesome. I wonder what clocks that CPU can reach.
