Looks like a series of elegant solutions for today's programing problems in gaming industry. Bring it on AMD!

We just need some benchmarks now.

Can anyone explain to me if all games from a supported engine work via Mantle out of the box? Such as Frostbite, or will each individual game need to be patched for this?

What exactly do you want to benchmark?

That would be one of the main ones to start with.

I can barely say this, but it seems, AMD for once did something RIGHT, jesus, whats next, not F-up CPU ?
Support for mantle seems to be solid.

From what he was saying during the streaming, all 15 games developed with FB3 will support Mantle, BF4 will be the only one patched to support Mantle, the others gonna support it right out of the box

I hypothesis that Amd is done with CPU. They have transformed, and it seems they will be successful as a cross between Nvidia and Intel, perhaps shedding CPU only Arch completely. I wonder if bulldozer/Piledriver was ever supposed to be competitive, or only a necessary step in the modular direction they had intended to go. You gotta admit, they learned a lot about modulation from that development.

So, am I reading this right? Does that really say not only can Mantle work with most modern GPUs (Nvidia and older AMD), but it is AMD's strategy for it to be?

Well it does say " Not Tied to AMD GCN Architecture". So I guess that does mean that maybe Nvidia can make use of it. That is if that slide above is to be believed.

They communicated a long time ago the days of competing with Intel on the high-end desktop segment were over. But of course, being able to produce successful APUs requires work to be done on the CPU side of things. If you cease to invest in R&D to continue pushing the CPU architecture, your APU will become an uninteresting product too. This is particularly a concern now that Intel is picking up on the GPU development (Iris Pro). So I am sure there is still focus on the CPU architecture part of the APU. They will just not focus on building "the fastest CPU".

By the way, with AMD reducing focus on claiming the title of the fastest CPU, Intel is pretty much the only company left to preach high-end desktop. That's not good for us.

I think it may be limited somewhat by how programmable the GPU is, but basically anything from the last few generations up (DX 10+) will probably be good to go.

Looking at the history of Battlefield games with all the bugs, I hold my hearth at how many more of those issues will pop up once they roll out mantle. I hope they have it tested well this time around.

Johan mentioned there are no number comparisons yet, not even in APU13. How sad. The only demo is by the Oxide engine developers, which is a bit pointless without any comparisons. Hope they post the demo on youtube, regardless.
