Probably only one DIMM per channel though. That kind of sucks. Well unless we are going to see 8 channels any time soon. If/when memory got cheap again I wanted to go for 64 GB and create a 48 GB RAMdrive with it. I also write my own programs sometimes and it would be supercool to have a full 64 GB at my disposal. Well since density is supposed to improve maybe we will see affordable non-ECC 16 GB DIMMs by the time Haswell-E gets released. Then I can have my 64 gigs to play with even with quad channel.

and it will be automatically obsoleted by 1Tb/100Gbps chips of Hypercube memory and reRAM in 2014

Only the specifications will be out in 2014... The products are still very far away. We'll get some glorified cache in 2015 if we are lucky.

cool stuff, can't wait to see how it clocks. wonder how efficient the timings will be. i expect slop at first i suppose, but hopefully 8-8-8 jdec standard at 2133 in the end. that would be nice @ 1.2v.

Any news on this yet? You would think there would be considering Haswekk-E is only like 6 minths away (based on Q3 release).

The thing that will be interesting with the start of the sell of DDR4, DDR3 price should go down.

So if you want buy something with huge capacity, should be nice in DDR3, and the speed increase, won't be more than 5% in gaming or what ever. Maybe in compression bench, ...

the CPU cache is actually high enough for most application, the most impressive gain should be how cache is made.

I'am thinking about a 128GB rig for next year.

Yeah I have some work that love huge RAM. I did a simulation of 64GB last month, was insane slow, I had a computer with "only" 32GB ( Mine is 8 ... since 2005-2006 more or less, yeah I got a 8GB for 110€. It was insane cheap, so I bought ^^ )

looks to me that the only people that would be worried about ddr4 is

    synthetic benchmarkers
    servers market
    laptop market

could be if ddr4 is much faster than ddr3 and newer cpu that are made to make use of it are any more bandwidth hungry than my old 2600k especially with overclocking
i can get up to 15% boost going from 1600-2133 at the same timings but only in cpu limited games of which there are very few

Do you really think so? DDR3 will still be quite main stream for a while.

Unless you're running a server board you won't be able to run 128GB in a regular desktop....

DDR1 and DDR2 were still quite expensive even over the past few years.

uhh, haven't posted in some time but DDR3 is not cheap at all in fact its probably the most expensive its ever been and im not sure DDR4 coming out will change that. if anything it'll be even more expensive if production is slowed to ramp up DDR4

I've been hearing rumors that Intel will have Haswell-E at Computex in June, so X99 may not be as far off as initially thought.
