    AMD's new GPUs

Has anyone been watching AMD's newest GPU architecture? Only the 290x and 290 are based on the new architecture, and the 280x = 7970 GE and 270x = 7870. According to a review site, the FP64 is 1/4 on the Tahiti cards and 1/8 on the Hawaii compared to the equivalent FirePro cards.

This review shows the 7970 GE in some cases beating the 290x in some compute applications.

This review has a the 290x winning in more apps, but not worth the upgrade.

If WCG comes out with another GPU app, it's wise to steer clear of these new GPUs.

On a good note, the 7970GE is now the 280x which will have a more efficient GPU shipping with it in a few weeks.

Has anyone heard of a GPU project coming out soon? My apartment is getting cold!

As you say - the double-precision performance is reduced now, though I've been testing a Hawaii SKU which runs at 1/2 DP performance. But that one wasn't a mainstream GPU, most probably will be turned into a wksta SKU.
So for DP projects (like Milkyway) I'd stay with Tahiti.
Also, according to reports, Hawaii doesn't work well yet: http://milkyway.cs.rpi.edu/milkyway/...2&postid=60285
MW don't run (App version needs CAL but GPU doesn't support it)

PrimeGrid don't run (App version needs CAL but GPU doesn't support it)But runing using app_info. Run a little slower than HD 7970

Poem and Einstein. working run a little slower than HD 7970

Collatz and DistRTgen. working run about 50% better than HD 7970
As for WCG I believe a GPU project is still far far away and it doesn't seem there's anything in the queue at all...
