    hdd's go missing after defrag??

I ran a defrag on all my hdd's overnight recently and now i've got two hdd's that I have to go to disk management and run a disk scan if I want them to show up. After a period of inactive time they go missing again..

Both are 1TB WD Blacks, so possible they are dieing I guess, but it just seems odd they would both do this at identical times. Could be the P67 chipset bug I guess, but I thought it was fixed..

Try another controller - either a different controller on your mobo or a pcie controller if you have one.
Is there by any chance a f/w update for the drives?

edit - also, why is this in the xtreme thread?

    edit

    I see, my bad, lol.

One drive is on intel 6g controller, other drive is on intel 3g controller.

Maybe they are just going bad... will know in a couple hours I guess.

If you can, try putting them on a non-intel controller just to make sure its not a compatibility problem.

Thats the next step, they both havent done anything strange since the cable swap to change which drive was on which controller (they were like this before but now the drive that was only the 3g controller is on the 6g controller, vice versa).

I've had lots of sata cable issues lately, with behavior just like you describe when they're bad. Even high quality name brand cables. I'm not sure if newer hardware is pickier than older hardware, or cables aren't as well made as they used to be, but I never had issues like this before 3 or 4 years ago.

Oh, lol! Maybe it was just an imperfect connection?
