Lowering prices on those cards is huge IMO. Not everyone buys a $299+ GPU.

I do however feel they missed a golden opportunity to address the GTX 760 and GTX 770 pricing structure.

i had quoted a comment that it would be good for non enthusiasts. so specifically if you are not an ethusist then you would buy from an OEM and they dont pay retail for cards so this changes nothing unless they are being sold for under cost.

Plenty of gamers aren't enthusiasts though. They build their own boxes as well or upgrade them. However they aren't buying the expensive stuff people here do. It's strictly mid or low range. They don't care about benchmarks, how it looks with a case window, 1600p 30inch monitors, or multi monitor configurations. They're also who buys up the majority of cards out there. These people buy 8800gt, 460gtx, 560ti, 650ti boost, whatever is the best value for 1080p or under gaming. Hell for many people the entire point of PC gaming is "dude, the games cost less at retail, there are Steam sales all the time, and you can pirate the crap out of everything". It's not at all about ultra high end configurations and rigs, PC gaming is all about bang for buck by hook and usually by crook.

As someone who's a mod on more than a few gaming forums it's completely different from what you see here. You'll never see gigabyte UD7 or ASUS ROG items recommended, the price point is way too high. What gets tossed out there is tech that's not cutting edge, but a really good value. Right now people would be pushed to the 650ti boost or an older card that's even more insanely discounted. x79 would never come up, nor would z87. Instead you'll see older P67 or z77 boards that are discounted to sub 100 bucks with heavily discounted Sandybridge or Ivy Bridge CPUs.

Don't mistake the larger gaming community for being enthusiasts or people buying premade alienware piles of crap. For the most part it's people that appreciate the fact that PC games are insanely cheap or free, and are looking for the best bang for the buck in their hardware to make those games run. That it's out of date and not cutting edge doesn't even enter the equation. For most of them the best thing about the release of a new card series is that the old series will see it's price plummet, and a new mid range card that might be an amazing value could crop up. They don't really give a about the 600 dollar enthusiast products because they'd never buy it, and it defeats the entire point of being able to cheap out on Steam sales (bought way after the games release) and downloading games for free.

They aren't really wrong either. You can snatch a good p67 board for 50 bucks or so after all discounts, a 2500k for 160, 8gb value DDR3 for 40, and now an even more discounted 650ti. That's an insane value that gets you into PC gaming at 1080p provided you don't want crysis 3 or arma 3 (which are more about crappy optimization than anything else), for less than a single 780 or an upper end ASUS ROG board. Combine that with older games over Steam, and the fact that PC Gaming stands for Piracy Compliant Gaming for most people with the skills to build a PC and nothing beats it bang for buck. Sure it's dated hardware, sure it's not cutting edge, sure better stuff is out or will be out, doesn't change the fact that bang for your buck it's a great bargain.

I wouldn't personally do it, but I also accept I'm burning money because I can the way I upgrade. The hate for these cards and failure to understand the business logic here is really something else. It's like you all play building computers and superpi instead of actually playing games and using computers.

Yes, but we don't care, it's not like a starving child, you can tell us why we should care but if it's wasn't fast enough before a price cut won't make it any faster now. I can appreciate someone wants it, otherwise no one would make them. Like lots of people buy Prius cars, I see nothing in them, and I wouldn't expect you'd get much love for them on a Celica forum.

Only one person has shown interest in owning any of these cards, and he owns two for SLI.

Really disappointed they didn't say squat about the sweet spot card i had my eyes on (660TI!!) I guess it'll have to be the 660

Hehe crash hit the nail on the head, growing up poor has made me naturally "frugal" so i get the best bang for the buck always. I'm curious where you are finding Intel quads for $150 though Since i do get games at a huge discount during Steam sales I have been tempted to spend more on a GPU upgrade this gen but that's mostly because i crunch on the side. Turning up all the eye candy isn't a big deal for me.

yep agree 100% when nvidia released the titan/780 and earlier amd with 7970 I felt it was just a big slap in the face. I always look for best bang hardware!

So true. I'd say enthusiast and tight budget go hand in hand:

1) Buy a cheap part.
2) OC the crap out of it.
3) Learn tons of stuff in the process.
4) ?????
5) Profit.

Almost everything I learned was through buying cheap parts, researching and tweaking.

Nvidia has offered price cuts for several of its graphics cards including the GTX 660 and GTX 650Ti Boost and will soon release an upgraded GTX 760, targeting AMD's Radeon R9 280X, according to sources from graphics card makers.

Meanwhile, AMD has announced pricing for its R9 and R7 graphics cards. The Radeon R9 280X with 3GB memory is priced at US$299; the R9 270X with 2GB memory is at US$199 and 4GB memory at US$229; the Radeon R7 260X 2GB US$139; the Radeon R7 250 US$89 and the Radeon R7 240 US$69.

The sources believe Nvidia may reduce its graphics card prices again in November.

Nvidia is looking after inventory of 660 and 770. Dunno if there is a 760 Ti coming or a cut in price for the 770 and a 770 Ti or whatever.
