Question about bare bones cruncher setup

So I hate to ask what is probably obvious to you guys, but how does one rig up a bare motherboard/server board equipped with CPU+heatsink, RAM, video card,HD, and PSU to turn on/off? Do you need any special parts or is it easy to set up using common things at hand? Thanks in advance.

If I understand you properly, you are asking how to power on a naked rig?

Just find the jumper that you usually connect the front panel Power switch to and bridge the gap (short) with a screwdriver, nail clipper, whatever. Just tap it for a second and it will turn on.

When I was running a Sammy in a cardboard box I used a push-button I had laying around and wired it up to the relevant pins.

Same here. find any kind of momentary switch and you're set.
Depending on the hardware, could also do a wake-on-lan.

    Screwdriver

I have no idea which pins do it on the sammy rig. I just brush the blade over all of the pins in that cluster.

I'm almost always available on Steam to chat. Same username.

what mobo? Chances are the manual says which pins, or the board itself (in small lettering) or an on-line manual if yours has been misplaced.

Mostly I was looking at dual LGA 1366 socket Supermicro X8 boards. I've been able to find the pin maps. I just realized that I'd never seen a power button or on/off type switch in the naked rigs I've seen pictures of at XS.
