Team.AU Go Sub-Zero At Respawn LAN with GIGABYTE and Intel

Melbourne, Australia: Over the weekend of September 21st and 22nd, Team.AU demonstrated the new Intel Core i7 4000-series "Ivy Bridge-E" enthusiast processor at RespawnLAN v28 using liquid nitrogen (-196?C) based cooling. The demonstration utilised Intel X79 based motherboards from GIGABYTE, graphics by NVIDIA and memory, power supplies and storage by Corsair. The Team.AU extreme overclockers also continued to explore the Intel Core i7 4000-series "Haswell" consumer platform based on GIGABYTE motherboards using the Intel Z87 chipset.

Using a system based on the new Intel Core i7 4960X "Ivy Bridge-E" processor, Team.AU demonstrated the increase in processing efficiency in this next generation Core i7 6-core CPU. This new fastest enthusiast desktop processor on the market showed a clear dominance in the CPU and Physics scores of benchmarks such as 3DMark11, 3DMark Vantage and 3DMark06, showing off the multi-threaded power of the new Ivy Bridge-E micro-architecture. The Team.AU members in attendance, James "Youngpro" Trevaskis, Dino "Dinos22" Strkljevic and Carl "SniperOZ" Hollingsworth ran the Intel Core i7 4960X just over 5.5GHz using the extreme sub-zero temperatures possible using liquid nitrogen.

    System Specifications Used:

    1x Intel Core i7 4960X @ 5.5GHz
    1x GIGABYTE GA-X79-UP4 with X01 BIOS
    1x NVIDIA GIGABYTE GTX 780 OC @ 1200MHz
    1x Corsair Platinum 2666 Quad Channel RAM @ DDR3-2646 9-12-12-21 2T

    About Respawn LAN

"Respawn LAN is Melbourne's largest and most popular BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN gaming event, with a regular attendance exceeding 400 players, running quarterly. Our community provides an exciting, socially optimised environment for gamers to meet other gamers with like minded interests. Our tournaments and activities range from Team Fortress 2, League of Legends, DOTA2 to Flatout 2 and paper plane throwing contests."

    A Friend In Need...

To help juggle the pouring and refilling of liquid nitrogen, Team.AU had a special guest from the Overclockers Australia (OCAU) community by the name of Matt "I want my PSCs back" Morrison. Here's what he had to say about the spectacle:

"It was great to catch up with Carl, Dino and James again, putting their Titans to the test. It's always a great atmosphere and the team really show they can pull the big punches."

    Results

The Team.AU overclockers worked hard and were able to achieve a number of high quality results. However, the jewel in the crown for these results is achieving the 3DMark06 global single GPU world record with a staggering 56,054 marks! The screenshots of these achievements can be found below:
