Mobile - CyanogenMod becomes fully fledged company

    Artical
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24160554

    http://mitchlasky.biz/cyanogen-mod/

    It's aiming directly at Android
nice to see the defacto root for android going independent like this though

thing is though, there are 2 other OS's in the works, both well entrenched in their respective communities and both want to do the same things
    Firefox
    Ubuntu

You forgot Sailfish OS, which should launch with the first Jolla phone before the end of the year.

Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

from reading, it's come from the ashes of MeeGo.
    I thought that ended completely.
What is it meant to give us over the others?
The website doesn't exactly say a lot about what it gives.

I mean, one of the great things about have 2 or 3 OS's is developers have to make the code 2 or 3 times. if you double the number of operating systems, developers are going to stick to their guns and stay with IOS, Android and one other. be it Windows, Sailfish, Cynogenmod, Firefox or Ubuntu.

Cyanogenmod is Android. It's actually pretty close to the stock google implementation, albeit with a lot more customization options, and some unique features.

Judging by the article, it seems they want to move away from the stock google implementation (think: HTC Sense, Motoblur, etc., these are all Android although the UI is very different) in the future.

Interesting. I know they have defiantly grown a lot recently but actually becoming a company wow. Props to them!

I know they have started to make their own apps as well. The camera app they released recently is the first of many to come. As well just recently they switched how the kernel was written.

So we'll see what the future brings.

In Spain, the last changes to our laws make it illegal to hack your phone. Thank you very much dear government.

Although the word you were looking for is "definitely" "defiantly" fits surprisingly well in your sentence... mind you it does convey a completely different meaning

Yeah, another step forward after privatizing harnessing the sun's energy; or at least the energy that reaches the earth over Spanish territory... an interesting twist to the concept of hydraulic despotism :P

Either way at the moment Cyanogen is just a flavour of Android, will be interesting to see where will they go from here and what do they do to stand out and gain market penetration, because as it stands the only way to change the OS shipped with your phone is to root it, not everyone's cup of tea and not without consequences.

Personally I'm more curious about what Ubuntu and Firefox are doing and how far they will be able to go
