as for APU , there are quite a bit average joe out there still consider

yes, sad. There in CZ are user reviews in big shops...So FX has here good results and FX-6300 is in top the best sell CPUs (some weekend is nr2, other 3. etc). Maybe in your are dont people know nothing about FX-6300 as price/performance ration, OC, performance in FPS games etc?

    this is an interesting thread..

recently, I found myself with a AMD setup...mind you, I have been an Intel fan since the last of the great FX series, the FX 60 ( at the time, it was what AMD had that was the best)

as you can see from my sig, I had a pretty decent Intel setup, but due to life changes, ( divorce, going on disability, financial issues ) I found a AMD setup on ebay.
(gave my son the intel setup)

Asus M5A99X Evo rev 1 board
    955 black
    2x4 super talent 1600's

I was able to get it up to 4100 but too much cpu voltage and stability issues, ended up at 19.5x200 @ 1.44v
( though I can also get it stable at 20x200...but it takes roughly 1.48's area vcore
ok, here is the point...I had fun again, overclocking with a new to me bios ( UEFI )
a new to me cpu and over clocking charecteristics with both MB and cpu and ram combination.

I think we tend to get complacent, we expect too much too quickly, we are always looking for the next best /greatest adventure in the computer world to bring us something that satisfies that need for competition within our selves and agaisnt others.

while it is a fact that *Intel Vs AMD* the performance wars favor Intel...so be it... BUT

when you are talking nano secs, slight performance differeances in benchmarks, a few FPS here and there...does that really mean that AMD has dropped the ball ???

I was absolutely blown away when I came to this part of the forums a week ago.... I used to come here and just read a couple years back, not as an intel fan boy, but as a curiosity of what others are doing...
to find that the AMD forum has been deserted blew me away...I was looking for some answers, some questions...some information...and it just wasnt here..nothing.

now..today I find that the 9370 is avalible 4.7 turbo?? nice

Im feeling enthused again....now I have a question...

BUT..im going to start a new thread on that..

AMD isnt dead... its alive and kicking....

Well I decided to load up my 2128 mem profile, which had the label of yc 10hrs stable (y cruncher).
    To my surprise it had the cpu-nb already clocked up passed 3000mhz, 3128 or 3200, lemme calc that, 266 x 12 = 3192mhz .

Ok cool, checked out my drive strenths to make sure every single one was set to the best, all good, checked 2ndary timings...
Oh neat, I found the issue for my stability at this speed I think (while doing random stuff, seemed fine testing but gaming and such would crash the pc on random).
One of the 2ndary timings was set 1t lower then what I know is exactly stable.
So I changed it from 4 to 5.

Modded my windows kernel, lol Ive been running on 3.x gigs of ram for months on end now.
Now I got all 8 gigs going on my 32bit os.

And now Ill be checking for stability in s&m, then some gaming maybe later on.
I'm only gonna be keeping this config for about a month though, until I get my intel.

As for clocking the cpu, its fun and all, but it doesn't seem to count when I need it.
The cpu is just to slow, but it works good enough for most apps, just not enough for everything.

    Edit:
    Cpu-nb unstable now.

Running around 2.9ghz for that for the moment.
Mem seems to be doing fine at 2128 c9.
Cpu temps are high, 1.275v "I think", 47c.
    Sb 42c, nb 52c (yikes...).
Ssd 30c, useful for judging ruffly ambient, it's way high but that's normal for me, the 140mm fans in that case, well all the fans that came with this case suck.

I've got 1500w of heat going in my room right now drawing power, it was cold this morning.

I'm guessing the reason why my cpu won't boot into windows 4.75ghz and the cpu-nb of 3.2ghz not being stable is probably my temps.
Nano alu shouldn't be screwing over like this though.

I haven't done any clocking in a while, nor really been on this forum since stopping.

It's really good to see beepbeep so keen and prominent, when I posted more you were just a kid (you presumably still are, just a bit older :P) and not doing anything extreme from what I remember.

I'm about to switch to AMD for my PC, since I'd like to have some fun with overclocking again, and AMD will let me do that without forking out too much ??? :P
I'll be going for a 760k probably, which from what I've seen have some room in them

I've been at this about a year and a half. I'm older now, but it's not as if I wouldn't have been doing this before, the opportunity just hadn't presented itself. I was able to purchase (I mean, steal, $200) a 25L dewar, and luckily LN2 is sold here for quite possibly the cheapest price (.50/L) in the United States.

By the way, most of the chips have quite a bit of room in them, except the faster ones aren't so fast/efficient in comparison to intel for some tasks.

I too used to check here everyday. I still come back in and out now and then. However I just see barely any activity to warrant getting involved in conversation again.

Life has gotten busier for me in particular, but I am still managing to tinker with a few things.

I built an A10-6800k HTPC/Steambox, but still haven't OCed it. I've also been pursuing more along the lines programming projects that align with my current studies at school. The raspberry pi is a lot of fun atm

It would be nice to talk to some folks on here again. I sure know I've missed the testing discussion with the likes of Flank3r and Beep

AMD slot A thunderbird with a insanely heavy panaflow cooler. The heaviest cooler ive ever used to this day yet extremely elegant and efficient. The Tbird loved it. Cache chips anyone?

    nostalgic amd tidbit^

Should have 3 of AMD apu machines by the end of the year! (2 laptops, 1 micro pc)

Thinking about copying apples latest workstation case for my AMD micro pc build and clocking it to the max! The design is so simple yet amazing.

Look forward to sharing the adventure!

OT: They wouldn't be much interesting as I haven't a decent Ali board for >100MHz fsb. Just an old Shuttle mvp3 based baby atx with a mere 512KB cache, not even a decent 2MB mvp3 dfi with ata66. Fortunately, it's bios has oficial support for the mobile 180nm plus series CPUs, wich are the ones that really mater for super socket 7 (I've also got another rare K6-2+ 550 ACZ with 128KB that does 6x100 2.0V).

The guys at k6plus forums have some extensive testing with these chips, plus highly patched registers under win 9x to make them do some miracles. Still, when I find the time, I'll promise you a post on the Cinebench thread for some laughs (IIRC, a good 1M run takes about 4:30 to 5m).

It's nice to see there's still some activity in the AMD section. We haven't really had much to talk about lately.
I'm by no means a fanboi, but I've always been drawn to AMD because in my mind they have always tried harder. They've always been the underdog, and yet how many times have AMD pushed CPU's to the next level? How many 'firsts' have they claimed? 1Ghz, dual core, quad core, IMC, 64bit X86, 8core, on-chip GPU, etc etc.
They don't have a fraction of the R&D budget Intel has, and yet they always forge ahead with something new, and I respect that. That's why I buy AMD when I can.
And as my PC's prime reason for being is gaming, they have always been good enough, and at a good price. Hell, my Phenom II 940 was still playing everything I threw at it up until last month when I built this 8350 rig. In fact I gave the Phenom II along with the mobo, RAM and my old Radeon card to a friend, and he's more than happy gaming on it.
And if you look in my sig, my 'under the TV' media PC is powered by a Sempron! A 2.2Ghz single core Sempron! But it does what I want it too. With the chipset based Radeon helping out, it plays HD video perfectly. For me that's a perfect example of 'buy what you need'. I've seen people build i5 powered media PC's. Why?? That's a waste of money! But I digress lol.

Anyway, for me AMD have always offered better value for money, and more than enough power for my gaming needs.
There's a good reason why both major video game consoles went with AMD for their next machines.

I do! The first rig I built myself. I believe the motherboard was by a company called TMC. It was a super socket 7, and it had a 2Mb L3 cache chip on it. I used the K6-3 400Mhz. Ah, memories.
