High Idle Temps

I have never been pleased with the temperatures of my Intel Q9550 with my watercooled system. It has always idled around 40C and one core is usually 8C colder than the rest (idle core temps: 40C, 36C, 44C, 44C. Load temps are decent around 65C. I recently lapped the CPU, but the temperatures didn?t improve.

Searching back through the forum, I realized I built my current machine 6 years ago I have upgraded the CPU and GX card and went to an SSD, but that is about it. I was thinking whether it would be worth it to upgrade to a newer waterblock to see if that helps with my temps.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

A new bock will help. Make sure your new block has the setup for the old CPU mount holes. That IS an old block.

Have you ever seen those core temperatures go lower, many of those old Core 2 cpus had stuck sensors that just wouldn't go lower than some number no matter how cold they were running. My old E7400 core temperatures for example never went below 42 C.

No in the winter when my room is 15C I have seen all the cores under 30C when I first boot up my system.

If your temps are correct, for an old cpu, i think a new block is not a good investment

Buy a new cpu block when uu change cpu/ram/mobo

2600k and later overclock better and are real performances improvments
