What do you recommend for extending your wi fi signal.

I need to extend my signal on my router. It is not going as far as I need. The place where I need it has an Ethernet port in the room but I would need to be able to wire from the piece of equipment that I decide to use there. It would probably best be a router unless an access point can have ports to hook up to additional equipment in the room that I already use. I know it is best to stay with the same brand and my router is NETGEAR DGN3500. Can anyone tell me what they would use? Thanks.

the best option would be to get a good new router with proper range most of the time. the next best option is to get a router and put it on an ethernet port and then disable DHCP on it when you get it set up so you can get them on the same network.

This is a new router. It cost $170. I really don't think that getting a new router would solve the problem because the location where I need the router is not necessarily a good one but a must. There are certain rooms that have different things in them that kill the signal too. I have so many wires running through my house and home automation etc. that it really messes things up. I have actually been thinking about a switch in the room and then an access point. A little more expensive setup, but a much easier configuration unless you know of a router that has a push of the button and it becomes an extender. I have heard they are out there but just have not had the time to look.

Just a simple range-expander like an Airport Express should do the trick. Stupid simple to setup too.

Would something like this work? I would not even need a switch.

Yes, I have two of them. One has speakers plugged into it so I can stream music wirelessly using Airfoil.

Everything worked great in this house, until they decided to have an Ipad fixed by a non-apple authorized repair place, now it doesn't work downstairs and we might need to buy an extender. Like you it's a $100 N class router so i blame Apple You could try a different antenna, not sure if it makes any difference, but Newegg gave me one a while back when i bought something
