AWG size for pump controller and power cable?

Hey,
I just can't find the right sub-forum for this so I thought perhaps you can help me out.
I wan't to make some custom cables for my two D5, 3-pin connectors and PSU molex cable.
What would be the right AWG size for all three? I guess it's ok if I just buy the thicker one, am I correct?

depends on the length, however for 12 to 24 inches 18awg for power will be good, if your going longer than this then go 16awg

for the tach signal 22 - 24 awg
