If you are talking about a land line, you can invest in a call screening (or blocking) device. Do some googling and it'll bring up a few options. I have one and it's awesome! It's called the "interceptor ID" but I don't think it's available anymore. It intercepts all incoming calls until the caller ID data is transmitted (between the first and second ring) and then blocks the call or puts it through depending on my preferences. I can block out individual numbers, calls without any ID info, entire area codes (888, 800, etc), even route calls from specific numbers to specific phones in my house.

You can also check with your phone company, they often have a call block service that you can manage yourself. Another option is to buy a phone with built-in call screening

If you are being called on your cell phone then I believe your only options are to use built-in call screening or contact your provider and see if they can do anything.

There is one I've seen Amazon, but, can't remember the name. It has plenty of review, not all 4 stars.

Will check for your advice. Thanks

In South Africa, we have something called the Direct Marketing Association of South Africa (DMASA). Cold calling is illegal without being registered with the DMASA, and the DMASA also has a do not call list to which anyone can subscribe. I start by asking if they're registered, if they say no/what's that/eh or anything to that effect I inform them that the call is illegal and will be reported (I never report it, but it normally ends with them immediately ending the call). If they say yes, I say that if that's the case they should know that my number is on the do not call list and I will be reporting them. Either way, it ends with them hanging up and never bothering me again

If you type "call blocker" into amazon a whole bunch of different ones come up. Prices are $60-100 but well worth it IMO, just make sure it has the ability to use wildcards so you can block entire area codes. Setting it up to block calls with no caller ID and from toll free area codes (800,888,877, etc) will eliminate 90% of annoyance calls. Then blocking individual numbers as they come in gets rid of the rest.

I should mention that most of these devices only protect the phone they are connected to, any other extensions in your home will still ring for all calls. One solution is to turn the ringers off on the other extensions if it is practical. The other is to use a cordless phone system with multiple handsets, which is what I have. The base is plugged into the call blocker so all extensions are protected.
