powering up a D5 vario (standard laing one) without the pc (for testing the loop)
Ok I am about to upgrade my old pc which is an I7 920 and GTX295 all watercooled. It uses a D5 vario and has worked perfectly for the last 4 years. However I have completely forgotten how to power up the pump for filling/bleeding/testing the loop without powering on the pc and risking frying something, I have a Corsair HX850. Can anyone remind me

aha thanks, yes that sounds familiar. I had just better remember to unplug the psu from the mains before I stick the paperclip in it before I electrocute myself

Something I have found that is very helpful: I have an ooollddddd external DVD drive power adapter that I modded with two standard Molex connectors and a fan header that I use for leak testing, bleeding loops, or just powering up random computer stuff to test before installing. It is about the size of a laptop charger, and outputs 12v and around 6a which is plenty of power to run multiple pumps and fans at the same time.
If you are like a lot of us with a ton of random old computer junk lying around, you may have something similar that you can use and not have to worry about unplugging your PSU to test stuff. It's very nice to be able to test stuff externally without opening your case or taking out an old PSU from storage.
