And it's $599... if the availability is good, this is a great deal. The AMD Radeon R9 290X is the flagship graphic card entry in the Volcanic Islands R-200 series family from AMD. The new card makes use of the brand new Hawaii GPU architecture which is aimed directly against the top dog from NVIDIA aka the GK110 GPU. The Radeon R9 290X features a full blow Hawaii chip with 2816 Shaders (SPs), 44 ROPs (Raster Operators) and 176 TMUs (Texture mapping units). The Radeon R9 290X GPU is clocked at base clock of 800 MHz and supports GPU boost frequency upto 1000 MHz.
One of the biggest changes made by AMD in their Radeon R9 290X graphics card is the addition of 512-bit bus interface compared to the 384-bit bus on their last generation Radeon HD 7970. The Hawaii GPU comes with a total of 4 GB GDDR5 memory which is lower than the GK110 based Titan but higher than the 3 GB GeForce GTX 780 which falls just around the same price point. The higher 512-bit bus allows for ridiculously higher bandwidth around 288 GB/s which is sufficient enough for the Hawaii GPU. There are two CrossFireX connectors located on the PCB board which means that users would be able to do Quad-Way CrossFire with four of the Radeon R9 290X graphic cards.

What's with AMD not showing any performance numbers but giving a pre-order date. I might get one of these cards but I am not going to preorder blindly.
Also I am surprised AMD didn't use the worlds fastest GPU moniker(which they have done repeatedly in the past) instead of our fastest GPU. The boost clocks appear to be a lot different this time around. A 200 mhz range in boost clocks seems more Nvidia like than before.
If I was AMD and had the world's fastest GPU, I would give performance figures. The lack of details for the 290x but the inclusion of details for their other cards is simply odd.
Its is kind of a spit in the face to Nvidia that this thing fully supports 11.2 directx while Nvidia only has up to 11.0 or pseudo 11.1 up to this point.
The 270watt heat and the general loudness of their past generation to cool a lesser GPU with a similar stock cooler, would atleast to me prevent me from pre-ordering a stock PCB one, even if I did know the performance figures. This thing is likely going to need an upgraded PCB and a better cooler to do some serious overclocking. With the huge boost clock variation that is likely temperature controlled, ones going to want a good cooler on this thing for it to maintain high boost clocks.

Now I come to think that if AMD had some level of TITAN card, would have said today and say it has the world's strongest GPU.
Begins to think that maybe not get the GTX 780 with clarity.
is this new audio tech going to make me avoid getting a positional SOUND card ?
They said worlds fastest GPU with the 7970.
http://www.x-drivers.com/news/hardware/5347.html
They said the worlds most powerful GPU with the 5870.
http://www.dvhardware.net/article37787.html
IF the leaked performances was correct, they should have the most powerful GPU and I am pretty sure they would be talking about that today. However if the leaked performance wasn't correct, then this presentation makes a lot more sense.
AMD even tried to brand the 7990 as the fastest card in the world and that is very debatable.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/a...radeon-hd-7990
Them not calling the 290x the fastest or most powerful GPU in the world seems unusual given their history of bragging about it in the past. Nvidia has done the same.
At this point they should be talking about their high end market the most because anything under 400 dollars they are competitive and or at times superior to Nvidia. At $500+, they don't have much but their low volume 7990 card which has too much bad press to brag about(Initially too expensive, too late, problematic and very power hungry).
If they needed to show the performance figures of any card today, that would need to be the 290x. Talking about the performance and pricing of their cards they did reveal more details about today probably hurt their lineup a little bit for sellability.
Talking about a 290x today with world beating performance figures would likely just hurt gtx 780 sales and titan sales. It might hurt the 7990 sales, but those cards are so low volume and such a good deal right now, I don't think AMD would have to worry.

Just saying... Doesn't really have to beat Titan to be great at that price. Think about another point, beating Titan will be such a huge deal for Amd, it will basically mean no dual gpu card...
I think between 780 and Titan is a great success if they intend to have dual gpu card.. If not then price will dictate the success of the card.
