[RUMOR] AMD Phenom IV X12 170 12 Cores, 6 GHz

Just for you crunchers that also have a penchant for AMD I bring a link about what MAY be available q3 onwards next year... An article from wccftech.com about a story published by chiphell:

AMD Phenom IV X12 170 ? The 12 Core and 6 GHz Clocked CPU

Codenamed Baeca, the Phenom IV X12 170 processor is built on a 25nm process. AMD has never mentioned plans to use 25nm process in its 2013-2014 roadmap, the only 28nm process designed Steamroller arrives in 2014 with the Kaveri APU. So this is a false assumption, furthermore the Phenom IV X12 170 processor would outdo the 8 core FX-series featuring 12 cores and a 6 GHz base clock speed. All of this within a 75W TDP package. The CPU would also feature a L3 cache of 24 MB. Sure seems a lot no?

I have to agree, none of that sounds believable.

    12 cores - Great!
    6 Ghz - Nope.
    25 nm - unlikely.
    75 W - Very unlikely.

I hope against hope I'm wrong as I would love to buy another AMD chip, but this seems incredibly unlikely - unless they went the starburst route, but I hope they'd learn that lesson from intel's mistakes.

6 Ghz @ 75 watts? To quote Cheech and Chong. "Hey man, it was only an ambulance. Light up another one."

You'll never know what you're living for until you know what you're willing to die for.

    Awesome quote.

And ya know - I believe everything on that list could actually be done if they REALLY wanted to, but the tricks they would have to play to make it work would hamper performance so bad it wouldn't be worth it. I can't wait for AMD to compete again for crunching, but... yeah I'm just gonna stop rambling.
