    Simple case mod knocked 5C off of 4770k temps

    So, currently @4.2 w/ 1.19v There's probably a little overhead in there, but since I crunch and game on this rig, I allow a little breathing room.

    Now, when crunching w/ a load at around 95%, my temps were hitting 70-74C on an H80i. For me, this is a little too close for comfort for 24/7/365 crunching. I'm very hesitant to delid the processor, so I had one last trick up my sleeve. One thing that I've been doing is cutting out the fan grill at the top back of my Corsair 600T cases. For some reason, I love this case and tend to use it on every rig I build.

    After cutting out the grill, I then use a dremel on some cheapo 120mm fans I've got lying around. Once the fan is removed, I use some 2-3in screws and install extensions to the fan in order to increase cool airflow going into the case. This helps to increase penetration into the rad.

    By doing these two simple tricks, my temps on the hot-core are down anywhere from 5-9C. Which I think is pretty damn good. Current temps are hovering around 65-68, and I next I'm going to see if I can get it up to 4.3 w/1.2.

    well shroud is good call - no deadspot under wide corsair's fan hub. also it's stretchen airflow a bit. removing grille - less restriction for airflow. 2.5*(shroud) + 2.5* (grill removal) = PROFIT!!!

    Yup, shroud is the correct word. Found the tip while searching for something or other. The guy did a full scientific experiment using different fan grills, filters, etc. As well as different lengths of shrouds. I believe max efficiency was gained around something like 6 in. Can't remember for sure though. But there was a VERY LARGE gain by having no grille, and a shroud.

    And it works, is cheap/free, and effective. Can't beat that combo

    This rig uses a H80i, so no, it's not an open loop system. I just didn't know what section to stick this in to be honest

    If you would like to me discuss how much I love my MO-RA3, I'd be happy too.

    optimal performance range for shroud is inbetween from hub diameter to 1/2 fan diameter. it's for tipical fans.

    By Martin's old shroud test optimum shroud depth for 120mm rad was ~ 25mm for push, ~ 40mm for pull, with 30mm being good generic depth for both ways. No wonder some users make cheap shrouds out of 25mm thick old fan frames by cutting rotor out.

    I did the same with my Thor V2 (top), cut the grills for the 2x 120mm fans
    Also turned off HT, not huge gains but better regardless and my Chip is quite hot (SB-E @ 4.4)
