Intel to Launch Core i7 Ivy Bridge-E in Early September!!

Well it's lookin' like all you rich fellas won't have to wait til next year to step up to a serious CPU. This also means that Intel will be launching the X99 chipset as well. The Z97 is supposed to have sata express...let's hope the same is true for the X99.
    Anyway, here's the article...

"An excerpt from an Intel Corp.'s document reveals that the world?s largest chipmaker intends to unleash its long awaited update to the Core i7 Extreme family of chips in early September. The new code-named Ivy Bridge-E microprocessors will be launched on the first, or the second week of September, presumably ahead of the Intel Developer Forum which starts on September 10, 2013."

Too late when Haswell just came out.

Until they release an 8 core, not interested. Intel has had a hard time increasing IPC lately and they at least need to give us more cores if they are not going to increase performance that much.

I liked when intel released the enthusiast lineup first like Nehalem and then the mainstream platform second. At least paying a premium for this extra expensive platform got you technology first and it felt fllagship for a lot longer.

Intels newest generation vs their old tech but newly released enthusiast chips always seems to take the wind out of these 6 core platforms. Intel should have learned by now considering sandy bridge E reviews that this release schedule makes it hard for these 1000 dollar processors to perform like one.

E.g if Sandybridge E was released before sandy bridge and during the core i7 xx0 series, it would have sold more.

So I guess we can't expect Haswell-E before September 2014...

The 6 core E's will launch in Sept. according to the article, it's the 8 core 'Halo' that won't launch til 2014 afaik.

I'm dieing to see the specs for the Z97/X99 chipsets...we're supposed to be seeing both Thunderbolt and sata express.

I feel theres a lot of confusion here. The article never mentions a new chipset, only that it will be compatible with the existing socket 2011 platform. Afaik its been known for a long time that X99 is for Haswell-E. This is Ivy-E only. No Haswell-E in september 2013. Period.

Haswell-E in the fall of 2014 does not seem too far fetched, however. Didn't some slides leak the other day with Haswell-E and X99 details?

They are already available. Cheaper ones are LGA 1356 Xeon E5-2450 and LGA 2011 Xeon E5-2650, they also got 5 MB Cache L3 that you're missing on Desktop parts. You will have all the goodies there, including 8 Cores, SMP, and all the features that Intel cuts from K series Processors, like VT-d and TSX. Nothing better than the noise of a Dual Processor machine powering up during the morning. Indeed, it is much more expensive, got low nominal Frequencies and is far from overclocking friendly, but hey, if you want them that badly, you can have them even now. With Ivy Bridge-E, there will be 12 Cores parts if I recall correctly.

I thought X99 wasn't coming until next year with the Haswell-E?

As great as this is....it is also frustrating.....my main rig is dead and I was to order a 3930k tomorrow.............Now pfffft may as well try and hold off.

Edit: absolutely no mention of X99 chipset in article.

This. I saw the roadmap in another thread and it mentioned the X79-E chipset for Ivy-E.

    Can anyone confirm this?

new mobo/chipset comes with Haswell E according to latest intel roadmap see link below. If Ivy E came with new mobo chipset Wellsburg, I would buy Ivy E just for something new to play with, then just drop in Haswell E when it came out. But not going to switch mobos twice, so waiting til Haswell E with new chipset/mobo.

I do hear the new IB-E will also come with a new X89 chipset. But this is a closely guarded secret.

A google on X89 comes up with a whole lot of speculation on forums.
