    4770K 90C with H100i @ stock speeds?

What the heck is up with Haswell? I know its supposed to be hot but jesus...

I've done 3 remounts and contact is good. I've used the rubber washers on the retention bracket to get extra stability with the H100i as well. So far at stock speeds, stock volts, using LinX im hitting 90C and I cant believe what I'm seeing. Is this normal?

You probably have a particularly pathological case of the black rubber adhesive being too thick, thicker than usual, resulting in your awful temps. Delid, remove the black adhesive and apply your favourite TIM, watch the temps drop 25-30?C

Other than that, have you checked the obvious? Some overvolting going on? (apart from vcore, haswell has a lot of other voltages to take care of, probably a long shot but you never know) Faulty H100?

This is on a fresh build, bios is set to defaults except for XMP profile for the memory.

I just swapped out my H100i for a Megahalem and temps are about the same which is shocking and says a lot for the Megahalem and not a lot for the H100i.

as mentioned delid and reapply fresh TIM. also flatten the HS by lapping for better contact. intel just cant make these HS 100% flat. i had bad experience with HS are not making 100% contact......

Wow that's smokin. I thought mine was bad in the high 60's with custom water cooling @ only 3.7GHz and an ambient temp of 55F. What's your ambient temp there?

Ambient is around 22C, 72F, here in Texas in my AC'd house. I originally bought the parts with the intention of giving my 3770K to my grandfather and seeing how high I can clock the 4770K. Lets just say my grandfather got the 4770K after all. He'll be able to surf the stock market SUPER fast even at stock speeds lol.

Yes-- if its brand new and its running at 90 degrees at stock clocks. Intel has a 3 year warranty on it. I bet if he put the stock heatsink on it--it would be unstable and crash. Newegg also offers 30 day replacement.

seems like he will just keep getting hot ones as these need delid, but hell if he wants to waste time and wishwishwish for a diamond in the rough go for it
