Any performance differences between mSATA and SATA SSD's? Might use mSATA on Z87 mobo

I totally overlooked this but if there's no performance hit or disadvantage to using mSATA on the motherboard it would make total sense to use this would it not? Other than the mSATA port being right below the waterblock I see no reason not to use it. Thoughts?

Technically there is no performance hit using mSATA, it's just a size reduction primarily designed for laptops or other portable devices.

Z87 boards will be the first with SATA III mSATA. Older boards used SATA II for the mSATA connectors so that's something to keep in mind for everyone else.

mSATA drives are almost always 4-channel which is slower than their 8-channel 2.5" counterparts. Your sequential reads and writes don't show a lot of difference but when you get data on the flash the mSATA parts slow down faster. Random performance takes a larger hit as well with 4-channel parts but again, when data is on the flash.
