I've been following the news but it's difficult to understand what's going on there. Is all this mess because of a new mall they wanted to build?
Can you please explain to us what's happening and why?

explaining it will be too long because it has a long history but if i stay on this event briefly it is something like this:

yes it started with a very few people against the mall and actually not much was caring about it but when police attacked at that few people living in tents at the park against mall by burning their tents and beating them suddenly against mall protests turned into against brutal police attack protest with more people included. police increased their attacks and effect of this much much more people started protesting and finally after prime ministers direct threats millions went to streets and protests turned against government. rest of the story is all about a despot ruler against it's citizens.
