Intel Haswell-E Halo Platform Will Have 8-Cores, DDR4, X99 Chipset

Looks like the next highend Intel is gonna be a smoker!

"The Intel 2014 enthusiast halo platform called Haswell-E is looking like it is going to some major changes when it debuts in the second half of 2014. This processor will bring the first 8 core desktop CPU for the first time and will have Hyper Threading and up to 20MB of L3 cache. The maximum TDP is say to be in the 130-140W range for these upcoming 22nm processors."

"With Haswell-E, Intel will introduce their new Wellsburg family of motherboard chipsets. The biggest new feature (and it’s really big) is the support for DDR4 RAM clocked up to 2133 MHz (of course, you can overclock and take it much further than that). The Wellsburg X-PCH will support a number of connectivity options:

    -Up to 6 x USB 3.0 ports
    - Up to 8 x USB 2.0 ports
    - Up to 10 x SATA 6 Gbps ports
    - Integrated Clock support
    - TDP of 6.5W

Wellsburg to have TEN sata 6 ports!? Hope they leave room for fat SataExpress pipes.

Finally something worth to upgrade to. I am still on a Core i5-2500K@4,5GHz proecessor and have absolutely no desire to upgrade currently. I hoped for Haswell@5GHz watercooled but I guess this will be impossible (with current steppings).

I went from socket 775 to Haswell. Although it sounds awesome DDR4 will probably not be cost effective upon launch just like DDR3 was when socket 775 showed up. The switch will probably be worth it 4-5 years after launch.

THe good thing is that cheapest haswell-E model is going to use 6 cores instead of 4

Haswell-E is a year away. Plenty of time to fix some stuff. Plus I am sure these chips will come soldered.

Sounds great, because X79 has been around for too long, though this sounds very expensive but worth it.

The lack of PCIe lanes sounds concerning. No mention at all?

Wa are now on one year old 22nm production from Ivy, and situation is worst with Haswell. It seems not better for HSW-E

PS. 22nm cant be soldered, sorry ...
PS2. Westmere was not soldered too, and was a problem?

Both those statements are false. Back them if you want anyone to believe in them.

Mechanical and thermal cycling stress occurs at both die attach (die to underlying PCB) and die interface (die to IHS). 22nm, Haswell and Ivy, already use solder in that the die is soldered to underlying PCB (see solder joint in intel docs for ivy/haswell). Explaining how 22nm can be soldered to pcb, but not IHS is not an explanation I even care to hear.

Failure to solder IHS interface, more likely cost vs requirement at worst case stock specs.

Very nice, but I think this platform will come to 2015 :P because the problem now is the new DDR4

To be honest, I'm looking forward to Z97 and X99 chipsets more than their cpus. The new SataExpress protocol will be making it's appearance finally...not to mention all the PCI 3.0 goodness that will make for some crazy ssd bandwidth. SandForce is working on their next gen SF-3000 series that is rumored to pump out 1.8GB/s reads/writes...perfect fit for a x4 slot.

    Why wait for this?

AMD will have the 5GHz 9590 8 core out long before, we can all have this level of performance then.
